Redskins wide receivers coach Keenan McCardell has made things clear to Malcolm Kelly, who has been sidelined since early in training camp because of a hamstring injury. Kelly still has time to impress Coach Mike Shanahan in his bid to make the opening 53-man roster, but it's getting late in the process. Of course, Kelly must first heal properly, and that's part of the problem. "There's a lot of football left. There's a lot of evaluation still left," McCardell said the other day. "The thing he has to do is get healthy and be out here. We've got to see him to evaluate him. That's what we keep stressing and I keep stressing. What I tell him is, 'You've got to be healthy, and I understand that. But you've got to be out here to be evaluated, too.' It's a new staff.
