Move over Peyton, this season only one Manning reigns supreme at the head of the NFL’s quarterback class and that is younger brother Eli. In an off-season consumed with uncertainties, the easy-going leader of the New York Giants assumed a leadership role, conducting off-season workouts with his young receiving corps. The organization did not make it easy, by choosing not to resign key free agents WR Steve Smith and TE Kevin Boss, the Giants were left with glaring holes at multiple positions. Jerry Reese stood firm in his beliefs and refused to add any pricey free agent acquisitions, leaving Manning and the offense on a very shaky ground to start to the season. Stripped of his ammo, many so-called experts predicted that Manning and the Giants offense would be firing blanks this season. I mean how could this team still be a contender in the NFL’s most competitive division? The void that Steve Smith left would be extremely difficult to fill, especially after opting to sign with bitter rivals - the Philadelphia Eagles. In addition to Smith’s departure, the loss of emerging tight end Kevin Boss would be nearly impossible to overcome, considering the lack of depth at the TE position. [...]
