Not only does Eli Manning do everything and more on the field, he’s now helping this Giants team off the field.

Manning has reportedly agreed to restructure his contract to give Big Blue a little more wiggle room this offseason.

The Giants guaranteed $9 million of Manning’s $10.75 million 2012 salary. This means the team can spread that $9 million over the final four years of Manning’s contract.

Eli’s base salary for 2012 will be $1.75 million, meaning the Giants will now have an extra $6.75 million in cap space.

The Giants went into the offseason at roughly $7.5 million over the salary cap, so this move should eliminate some of the stress.

A move like this shows that some players care more about winning than about money. Manning is coming off a career year—in which most players would demand more money. However, Manning wants to ensures that he can taste Super Bowl glory once more but allowing the Giants to negotiate with their potential free agents.

It’s still looking like Mario Manningham will call somewhere else home, but maybe Manning’s reduced contract will keep Brandon Jacobs, Osi Umenyiora or possibly both in Giants’ uniforms.

If the core of this teams sticks together, we could be seeing the makings of a dynasty. The team came together so well down the stretch and into the playoffs that there’s no doubting they can do it all again.

Maybe some of the other Giants’ players should consider doing what Manning did. If every player gave back even a small sum, it would allow the Giants to do great things.

Manning continues to cement himself as a leader. He certainly has followed in his brother’s footsteps quite well. Now Peyton just needs a new home.
