Manny Ramirez enters his second year with the Denver Broncos after securing a roster spot through training camp last year. A six-year NFL veteran who spent his first four years with the Detroit Lions, Ramirez was a promising prospect coming out of Texas Tech when the Lions drafted him in the fourth round of the 2007 draft. Ramirez was a college stud — he received various All-Big 12 honors and set the bench press record for his school at 550 lbs, but he was a starter on a dreadful Lions OL, a disappointment, and was ultimately cut by the team.

2011 Analysis: Ramirez entered training camp as a longshot, but he made the team and remained on the roster the entire season. He appeared in two regular season games (Weeks Two and Three), and although Russ Hochstein got the nod when Chris Kuper went down, he saw time in both postseason games. Ramirez has the size and strength to produce at the NFL level, his game is just incomplete.

Contract Status: Signed through 2013 ($700,000 in 2012).

2012 Outlook: Presumed backup, defending his roster spot from a slew of rookies. The Broncos liked Ramirez enough last year to sign him to a two-year deal in 2012, and with Hochstein gone, he’s presumably the primary backup to both Zane Beadles at left guard and Chris Kuper at right (Ramirez also played a bit of center in training camp and preseason last year). He’s the only guard on the Broncos’ roster with starting NFL experience outside of those two, so it’s his roster spot to lose.

As always, we invite you, the readers, to participate. Should the Broncos keep Ramirez or roll with the rookies?
