Free agency begins Tuesday and Oakland Raiders Pro Bowl fullback Marcel Reece has some advice for general manager Reggie McKenzie. "What I want to see Reggie do, and I'll be honest with you, just like I'll be honest with him, I want him to be fearless," Reece said Saturday night at the team's Commitment to Excellence dinner. "I want to not worry about anybody else. I want him to be fearless and, let's go for it right now. "No safe moves. I don't want safe moves. I want smart, calculated, fearless, Raider-ass moves that you don't care about anything else. Just winning. And that's what we want to do. Right now." Said McKenzie: "What I want to do is make this team better. And that's what we're going to set out to do this Tuesday and really, not waiting until Tuesday but, just with our own team, just trying to get things done. We want to upgrade this football team and we intend to do that." The Raiders will have ...

What if Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie actually intends to overpay?

The Oakland Raiders WILL NOT overpay this offseason. That is what we have been hearing forever. The Raiders have the most cap space of any team in the NFL and general manager Reggie McKenzie has repeatedly said that he will not spend it foolishly and does not plan on overpaying for anyone. But what if Reggie McKenzie actually plans on overpaying for a number of players? No, I am...

Lack of Oakland Raiders re-signings may not be McKenzie’s fault

The Oakland Raiders have no re-signed any of their top free agents yet. This morning at noon eastern time, the legal tampering period began where teams are allowed to begin discussing contracts with potential free agents. Those players can then be signed on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. EST. But as free agency hits, the Raiders have only re-signed Khalif Barnes, extended Taiwan Jones and...

Report: Oakland Raiders interested in Matt Schaub

The Oakland Raiders need to figure out who their quarterback will be for 2014 and beyond. With two young guys on the roster, neither of whom has shown they are ready to be THE guy, the Raiders will surely add at least one and up to two more quarterbacks to the mix this off season. Possibly three more if Terrelle Pryor gets traded as any assume he will. The free agent market is not...

Big bump in cap could undermine Raiders' bargaining strength

The Raiders can't catch a break. They gave their roster a good shake and dumped it last offseason, with the promise of being first in the food line at the 2014 free agency buffet. And they are first, with $64.9 million available under the salary cap. But the other team's plates are bigger than expected, with the NFL announcing last week that the salary cap is up $10 million...

Spike in salary cap could hurt Raiders' ability to land top tier free agents

The Oakland Raiders have the most money to spend in free agency of any team in the NFL ($64.9 million available), but when the league announced a $10 million bump in the salary cap, they lost some leverage.

Mock Free Agency: Raiders Edition

With free agency set to start in under 24 hours, there is lots of buzz around the Raiders…and most of it, quite frankly, hasn’t been positive. Talks with LT Jared Veldheer, DE Lamaar Houston, and FS Charles Woodson have all hit snags in one way or another, and it seem all three could be set to hit free agency. This has seemed to anger a lot of Raiders fans, and understandably...

Report: Raiders RB Darren McFadden Has Generated “Significant Interest”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Raiders RB Darren McFadden has generated “significant interest” in recent days. The running back market is reportedly been sluggish in recent days, so this report is definitely interesting, especially when you consider McFadden’s recent struggles and injury history. McFadden has had a number of disappointing seasons with the Raiders...

Charles Woodson Photobombed Michigan During Its Trophy Celebration

As we noted yesterday, Michigan held off on its Big Ten regular season title celebration until its final home game against Indiana, even though the Wolverines had locked up the conference earlier in the week after a victory over Illinois. Michigan’s players and coaches cut down the nets and took pictures with the trophy, as evidenced below. But the Wolverines also had a special...

The Raiders and the Salary Floor part 1: How the Salary Floor works

Special thanks on this article to OverTheCap.com and specifically @Jason_OTC, with whom I consulted to make sure my details were correct.   On Twitter, where I spend much of my free time these days (follow me @AsherMathews), I get a lot of questions about one of the additions to the newest Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the spending requirement that each team agreed...

The Bengals need to take a chance on Darren McFadden

Most view Darren McFadden as the epitome of risk. After being drafted fourth overall in 2008, the Arkansas running back has yet to play out an entire season. In fact, he’s only started more than seven games twice in his six years in the NFL. Still, while his career has been marred by injuries, his natural talent has continued to seep through the cracks. Aside from Adrian Peterson...

Packers Among Teams With Interest In Raiders’ DE Lamarr Houston

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Green Bay Packers are among the interested teams in Raiders’ free agent DE Lamarr Houston. Rapoport adds that the amount of interest from Packers remains unknown at this time. Rapoport has been saying for months now that Green Bay is looking to get more athletic on the defensive side, so we’ll see if anything comes of this...

Report: Cardinals expected to sign Jared Veldheer

With the Raiders expected to sign Roger Saffold, it looks like Jared Veldheer will sign with the Arizona Cardinals, according to the Baltimore Sun. Oakland Raiders offensive tackle Jared Veldheer is expected to sign with the Arizona Cardinals for between $7 million and $7.5 million. var ACE_AR = {Site: '898551', Size: '468060', CallType: 'IFRAME'}; Need...

Arizona Cardinals set sights on Oakland Raiders' Jared Veldheer

The Chiefs' Branden Albert, one of the top left tackles in free agency, is expected to sign with the Dolphins on Tuesday, according to an NFL source. The Cardinals had expressed interest in Albert, but apparently have set their sights on a younger, cheaper alternative who might have more potential. The Cardinals have more interest in Raiders left tackle Jared Veldheer, who...
