With their top two running backs both plagued by high ankle sprains, the Raiders will need someone to depend on against the Ravens on Sunday. If Marcel Reece can prove to be reliable, he could have the breakout performance he’s been hinting at for the past three years. Reece is finally set to have a major role in Oakland’s offense with Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson likely out against the Ravens on Sunday. Reece and second-year player Taiwan Jones will be sharing the starting halfback role. Halfback is one role the fifth-year player doesn’t have a lot of experience in. The Raiders’ 6-foot-1, 255-pound fullback went undrafted out of the University of Washington in 2008. He was a 6-foot-1, 240-pound wide receiver then, who flashed at times in college, but couldn’t consistently help his 4-9 offense get out of the depths of the then Pac 10. Reece ran a 4.42 40-yard dash at the Huskies’ pro day after not being invited to the NFL Scouting Combine — an impressive time for any athlete, bu...

Offensive Game Grades: Week 9 vs. Tampa Bay

What a heartbreaking loss for the Raider Nation. The Oakland Raiders were able to score 22 points in the fourth quarter, including 15 unanswered, to be one field-goal away from tying the scoreboard on what would have been an incredible comeback. Unfortunately, the 35 points scored by the Buccaneers in the second half ended up being too much to overcome [...]

State of the AFC West: Week 10 Edition

It was a painful week in many ways for Silver and Black Nation. It was bad enough that Bucs rookie running back Doug Martin made like Walter Payton against the Oakland defense. Add to that the twin high-ankle sprains for Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson, and the week could not have gone any worse. McFadden has not been ruled out [...]

Raiders To Increase Taiwan Jones Workload

Raiders second-year running back Taiwan Jones took first team reps during Wednesday’s practice, per Paul Gutierrez of CSNBayArea.com. “He’s been a little up and down,” Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said of Jones, via Gutierrez. “A little injury-prone, or injury-plagued, and so it’s been kind of tough to evaluate because he’s missed some time. But we’ve got confidence...

Palmer now pivotal figure for Raiders

What was becoming evident throughout the first half of the season is now patently obvious. As much as running back Darren McFadden was touted as the player whose success was most important to the team, it's clear the Raiders will rise or fall with quarterback Carson Palmer. Now that McFadden and backup Mike Goodson both have high ankle sprains, with their status for Sunday...

Raiders Injury Report: Darren McFadden, Mike Goodson, Richard Seymour

Oakland Raiders running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson were expected to sit out practice yesterday, but defensive lineman Richard Seymour was also sidelined due to a hamstring issue, reports Paul Gutierrez of CSNBayArea.com. "After getting some treatment Monday and Tuesday, we felt like holding (Seymour) out of practice today," said coach Dennis Allen. "...

Darren McFadden & Mike Goodson Out For Week 10

The Oakland Raiders will be without RB’s Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson for Sunday’s game against the Ravens. Both players missed practice on Friday because of high-ankle sprains, so Taiwan Jones figures to see large workload with Marcel Reece being mixed in throughout the game. McFadden’s injury isn’t believed to be too severe, so there’s at least a chance that he...

Oakland Raiders: Week 10 NFL Power Rankings (#30)

Last week: 30 (-1) Record: 3-5 Oakland/Tampa Bay was a crazy game for statistics. Everyone knows about Doug Martin’s 272 total yards and 4 total touchdowns, which was the 4th highest single game fantasy football total in history. However, we also had Carson Palmer throw for 414 yards and 4 touchdowns in a losing effort for just the 7th time in NFL history. Meanwhile, because of...

Oakland Raiders at Baltimore Ravens: Three Bold Predictions

Few people likely had the Oakland Raiders at the top of their Super Bowl contenders list before the start of the season. Those that did probably reluctantly admitted that this is a "rebuilding" year since Oakland is in a hole and looking up from a 3-5 record. As the Raiders face a stiff Baltimore Ravens defense this week, we make three bold predictions about the outcome...

Raiders Backfield For Week 10

I can fly Juan… With DMC and Mike Goodson out for week 10 the duties will be up to Taiwan Jones and Marcel Reece against the Ravens. Taiwan Jones will be the ‘starter’, which can be nothing more than ceremonial at times.  The Raiders have really failed to run the ball effectively this season and they may not change even against a Ravens team that has been run over during the...
