The Patriots players made one of the most obvious decisions they could make, but that doesn’t mean its not a heart-warming one. It has been all year. By a vote of the players, rookie OT Marcus Cannon was named as the team’s Ed Block Courage Award winner. The tackle was a fifth-round draft pick who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma this spring, only to battle back and make the active roster by November. In the release, the Patriots said, “The honor is voted on by teammates and bestowed annually upon the player who best exemplifies the principles of courage and sportsmanship while also serving as a source of inspiration.” He’ll be honored with the 31 other winners at the 34th Annual Ed Block Courage Awards Banquet in Baltimore on March 13, 2012. The fact that the Texas Christian University has actually played and contributed after being on the Non-Football Injury list only makes this better.
