As we get closer to the beginning of the free agency period in the NFL, things between Mario Williams and the Houston Texans remain uncertain. So far all indications are that there hasn’t been any progress made on getting a long-term done between Williams and the Texans. If the Texans want to place the franchise tag on Williams, it will cost them $20 million in 2012,  which is a very high number for a team that doesn’t have much cap room. According to Len Pasquarelli of Yahoo Sports, there’s also some suspicion that Williams would rather play in the 4-3 defensive system then the Texans’ 3-4 scheme.  As an outside linebacker in 2011 he recorded 5.5 sacks before his season was cut short by a torn biceps injury. Many people around the league believe the Texans will figure out a way to get Williams resigned, but I’m not as optimistic.

NFL Rumors: Could the Titans Be After Mario Williams?

It seems unlikely that the Houston Texans can retain Mario Williams. Williams has big money looking to be paid to him and their salary cap could be in a hole even if they franchise-tag the pass-rusher. Many rumors have him going other places, such as the New York Jets. The Jets and Rex Ryan have been looking for an elite pass-rusher to fit their solid 3-4 scheme. They are just a...

Patriots To Make Run At Texans DE Mario Williams?

This could all be moot if the Texans try to wrap up their superstar defender but it would not stun Eric Edholm of Pro Football Weekly one bit if the Patriots make a play for DE Mario Williams. Bill Belichick is nothing if not opportunistic, and he knows that having one of the finest defensive talents potentially come free like this is a once-a-decade kind of thing he can't afford...

2012 NFL Free Agency: Tennessee Titans To Target Mario Williams

Photo Via NFL'sFuture.com Mario Williams has recorded 241 total tackles, 53.0 sacks and 11 forced fumbles in 82 starts in the NFL.  The star pass-rusher is expected to become a sizzling commodity in 2012 NFL Free Agency. In what was considered a very questionable call, Williams was selected first overall in the 2006 NFL Draft just ahead of the likes of Vince Young and Reggie...

Peruse this list of Top 50 free agents… see any you like?

Every year, Pete Prisco of CBS Sports puts together a much-anticipated list of the Top 50 free agents. It’s not based on overall talent right now, but it’s compiled judging “bang for the buck,” Prisco writes. Texans LB Mario Williams is the No. 1 player, and that’s not a surprise. But what may be surprising is that with nearly 20 free agents, the Patriots...
