In a ploy to try to motivate QB Mark Sanchez, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan gave backup quarterback Mark Brunell some reps with the team’s first-team offense. Mark Sanchez has received heavy criticism over his play on the field this season as he has not shown the progression that many would have thought he’d be showing in his third season in the league.
This is not the first time Ryan has tried this tactic. With Sanchez struggling last season, Ryan gave Brunell reps with the first team offense in order to motivate Mark Sanchez. The result? Sanchez played better and led the New York Jets to the playoffs.

New York, the loser of two straight, finds themselves on the outside looking in at the playoff race and are going to need to run the table on their remaining games. New York has already lost to the Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos and the Oakland raiders so they would lose any head-to-head tie...

Rex Ryan fined $75,000 for swearing at fan
When Rex Ryan told a customer at the Patriots-Jets game to go “F— off,” Florio said that Ryan would surely get a fine larger than the $50,000 tab he incurred for flicking off a fan at a MMA event. Florio suggested $100,000 sounded about right. It turns out that was $25,000 too much. The NFL…
Rex says he doesn’t envision ever benching Sanchez
The decision to give backup quarterback Mark Brunell some snaps with the first-team offense appears to be yet another “I’ll turn this car around right now” threat from coach Rex Ryan to quarterback Mark Sanchez. Assessing the Jets' Playoff Chances
During his weekly visit with the media, Mark Sanchez sounded upbeat when he said he thought the team had a good shot of making the playoffs.
You know things are bleak for Rex Ryan's team when a good shot at the playoffs qualifies as pie-in-the-sky dreaming. The Jets have a shot at the playoffs, but is it a good shot?

New York Jets Defense Needs Immediate Improvement
The New York Jets defense, Rex Ryan’s pride and joy, has been maddeningly inconsistent this season. They dominated in the second half against San Diego, the entire Buffalo game, and then for the first 29 minutes of the New England game. Since then they were embarrassed on a two minute drive, the entire second half against the Patriots, and after handling the Tim Tebow circus...

This isn’t about the coach’s $75,000 bad word, though maybe the fine will help even Rex Ryan know that sometimes it’s not against the law to have an unspoken thought around the New York Jets.
