The downward spiral for the Jets continues with more drama and less winning. After Geno Smith made his starting debut with an abysmal 3 INTs and accidentally running out the back of the end zone for a safety, Coach Rex Ryan decided to give original starter, Mark Sanchez, a nod in the 4th quarter. No one quite understands the motivation behind this decision, but CBS Sports is reporting that Sanchez was against the idea of entering the game. In fact, it had originally appeared that third string QB, Matt Simms, would be entering the game originally, but somehow that plan changed. Rex Ryan’s response to the media on his decision was this: “We’re there to win. We had our starting offense out there for three quarters — we’re trying to win the game, that’s what we wanted to do. … We’re trying to compete. Everybody’s out there and injuries are part of the game. … We’ll see the severity of Mark’s injuries. Obviously it didn’t work out the way we wanted it to, but we’re here to compete.” Well, after just two series, Sanchez injured his throwing shoulder, and it’s starting to look as though this may be Ryan’s final season as the Jets head coach. The team continues to be a spectacle and the butt of everyone’s NFL jokes. The regular season hasn’t started yet, but the Jets actually seem to be in a worse position than they were last season. Sorry Jets fans, but I think you only have next season to look forward to at this point.
