Late this afternoon came what seemed to be the inevitable – Laurence Maroney is no longer a Patriot. Word coming from ESPN’s Adam Schefter the Patriots sent Maroney and a 6th round choice to Denver for a 4th round selection all coming in next year’s draft.
Early word out of Foxboro from the Boston Herald’s Ian Rapoport is that Maroney confronted Belichick after Monday’s film session and had to be restrained by fellow runner Fred Taylor amongst others. Anyone knows calling Belichick out on the carpet in front of teammates is the kiss of death, and you’ve just played your last rep with the Patriots.
Maroney reunites with former Pats offensive head Josh McDaniels in Denver, looking for a fresh start. What he’ll find there is an eerily similar situation, running behind second-year man Knowshon Moreno and likely bet for a knee issue Corell Buckhalter.
