With four minutes to play Thursday night and needing to stop America’s most disappointing football team from scoring a touchdown the Bears’ defensive huddle featured the likes of Zack Bowman Landon Cohen Blake Costanzo Jon Bostic and David Bass.
Weeklong injury battles and in-game attrition made the Bears’ once-vaunted unit a cast of no-names.
And the no-names needed a stop.
With just under 2 minutes left they got it — when Eli Manning threw a pass over Brandon Myers’ running down the middle of the field. The ball tipped off the tight end’s hand and into Tim Jennings’ arms for the erratic quarterback’s third interception of the night.
The Bears held on for a 27-21 victory in front of 60709 Soldier Field fans squeaking by a winless team in a game that won’t win any aesthetic points.
But just look at the Bears’ injury list Thursday: cornerback Charles Tillman (back) and defensive tackle Stephen Paea (turf toe) were ruled inactive.
