TEAMS: Detroit Lions
As we get closer and closer to the NFL Draft, there is always a ton of speculations on what exactly what will be happening that day, even though no one, not even the teams themselves, know what is going to happen at this point.During Mel Kiper’s recent mock draft, he had the Lions trading picks with the Chiefs, who have the 1st overall pick this year. Lions general manager saw the draft and even though, like most teams, he doesn’t rule out moving around during draft day, he does deny the possibility of moving up to the 1st overall, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.“There’s a lot going on right now,” Mayhew said. “I think what happens in this process, as you get closer to (next) Thursday, some things start to crystallize a little bit. I think there’s a lot going on. There’s a lot of rumors, speculation; we’re going to trade up to 1, which is not going to happen.Mayhew also says that even though their isn’t a lot of first round talent, there will be more talent then usual in later rounds. He said the Lions have given out fewer first-round grades than usual this year, but that the draft is deep enough that they expect to get first-year impact players with their top three picks, No. 5 in the first round, No. 36 in the second round and No. 65 in the third round. The Lions definitely regressed last year in the eyes of many, after failing to make the playoffs after their success in 2011. Mayhew is right however in regards to the fact that they’ll be able to pick up impact players later on. Even though this draft class is lacking in skill position players, their is a lot of talent along the line positions.Need NFL Tickets?
