The idea that the Cincinnati Bengals have a starting safety right now is a bit subjective. They don't. The favorite being promoted by those around the team, though not necessarily the team, is that Taylor Mays is the favorite. He took most of the first-team snaps with the first team during offseason workouts, but head coach Marvin Lewis told fans during a recent Cincinnati Enquirer chat that there is no clear leader.
The competition will be one that we will be excited to watch throughout. I don't think there is a clear cut leader right now.
Joe Reedy with the Cincinnati Enquirer theorizes that if not Mays, then "a dark horse could be fifth-round pick George Iloka", moving Nate Clements or Jason Allen or a free agent cut throughout the league.
