PLAYERS: Matt Forte
TEAMS: Chicago Bears
Matt Forte is one of the top running backs in the NFL, and he's been a workhorse for the Bears with over 1,000 touches in his first 4 years in the league. Despite this, the Bears have been reluctant to offer up a big-time contract to Forte. The lack of a respectable offer from the Bears may paint them as the villain in this case, but their concerns aren't unsound. A source with knowledge of the situation told the Chicago Tribune's David Haugh that the Bears are concerned how long Forte's knees can hold up. The concern stems from Forte's heavy college and pro workload. He's touched the ball over 2,200 times over the course of his college and pro career, and as we know, running backs don't have a long shelf life. This is turning into a simple case of caution vs. confidence. The Bears are protecting their own interests by not putting to many eggs in the Matt Forte basket, and Matt Forte is, of course, confident that he's nowhere near the end of his bes...

Will Matt Forte be with the Chicago Bears in 2012?

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte was slapped with the franchise tag at the start of the free agency period, a move which frustrated the productive back which has been seeking a long-term deal from the Bears organization for two seasons now. There have been strained discussions this offseason and recent remarks suggest that Forte might be on the outside looking in for the 2012 season....

Report: Matt Forte's knees a concern

One key reason the Chicago Bears are yet to offer a long-term deal to running back Matt Forte is that the team is concerned about whether his knees will hold up, the Chicago Tribune reported Saturday, citing a source. The source said the Bears want to protect themselves from arthritis setting in and becoming a chronic problem for the 26-year-old. Forte's knees have reportedly...

Bears RB Matt Forte Tweets video of him pulling a 100 pound sled

Running back Matt Forte and the Chicago Bears have yet to agree on a contract extension. Bears worried about Matt Forte’s knees

Matt Forte was franchised by the Chicago Bears earlier this offseason and he has not been happy about it. Forte is refusing to sign the 7.7 million dollar tender as he’s looking for a deal worth 8.5 million or so per year over 4-5 years with about half guaranteed: a deal essentially on par with what LeSean McCoy, Chris Johnson, and Arian Foster have gotten in the last 2 seasons...

Jay Cutler could get a new contract before Matt Forte

Getty Images David Haugh of the Chicago Tribune indicated that he wouldn’t be surprised if Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler ends up getting a contract extension before running back Matt Forte and I can’t argue with him. I don’t even expect the Bears to re-sign Forte,  I think they’re dumb enough to let him walk in free agency after this season.  They haven’t respected...

Jay Cutler to get a long term deal from Bears before Matt Forte?

According to the Chicago Tribune, Jay Cutler could be getting a long term deal from the Bears before Matt Forte. Cutler is due 16.17 million over the final 2 years of his deal, while Matt Forte has yet to sign his 7.7 million dollar franchise tender in hopes of a long term deal. These are the first real rumblings of a Cutler extension and an extension would likely not sit well with...

Bears' Bush showing unexpected skills as receiver

One of the early positive elements of the Chicago Bears' workouts, perhaps even an epiphany of sorts to some coaches, has been the performance of tailback Michael Bush as a receiver. The four-year veteran, signed from Oakland as an unrestricted free agent and presumptive backup to franchise tailback Matt Forte, has caught the ball well. There were some concerns as the Bears...
