Matt Hasselbeck had a pretty good run, and now he’s just about ready to say goodbye. Hasselbeck, who spent 11 seasons as a starter, signed a two-year deal the Indianapolis Colts this offseason to be Andrew Luck‘s primary backup. When that contract is up after next season, Hasselbeck plans to hang up his cleats, he told Alex Marvez of FOX Sports on Sunday. “I’d like to do one more year than call it a career,” Hasselbeck said. “I’m hoping for a good year this year and next. Hasselbeck had a pretty successful run during 10 seasons in Seattle, making three Pro Bowls and leading the Seahawks to the 2005 Super Bowl. The loss to the Steelers in that game still stings, though. The former Boston College standout is still itching for that Super Bowl ring, and he seems to think that the Colts give him a great chance at accomplishing that goal. “That’s why I’m excited to be here rather than some other place,” Hasselbeck said. “I feel good about our chances and the team we have. And I believe in Andrew.” The Colts were the surprise of the NFL last season, turning a two-win season in 2011 into 10 wins and a playoff berth in Luck’s first season in Indy. They’re back at it again this season, too, starting the year 4-2 and looking like one of the few Super Bowl contenders, so Hasselbeck may get his wish after all. Hasselbeck has started 152 games in his 15-year career, throwing for 34,554 yards and 201 touchdowns. Have a question for Luke Hughes? Send it to him via Twitter at @LukeFHughes or send it here.
