Contrary to the several surprising trades that unfolded in the first seven picks, nobody jumped out of their seat in Radio City Music Hall when the Miami Dolphins took Texas A&M QB Ryan Tannehill with the eighth overall pick in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft on Thursday evening, April 26.
The last time the team selected a quarterback in the first round was Dan Marino in 1983.

Questions about their competition against each other, and the potential newcomer (which is now a reality), dominated the team’s press conference last Tuesday. Now it’s time for the other threes of crowd in South Beach.
“Well, there’s always potential,” said Garrard last Tuesday, according to the team’s press release.
“Has the draft happened yet? No, ok (laughing). It’s always a chance to bring so...

Draft Grades: Miami Dolphins
When you draft a quarterback in the 1st round, you’re staking your entire reputation on that one player, which is exactly what Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland did with Ryan Tannehill. No matter what happens with the rest of this draft class, only Tannehill’s performance will be remembered.
