Pro Football Zone:
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is trying to achieve something that has eluded him since the start of his NFL career: win a playoff game. So he’s been hitting the gym with a vengeance to work on his arm strength. “I think we’re off to a good start,” said Ryan. “It’s weight training, getting in there and training with weights. It’s learning to condition myself in the way that we play football and in a way that is productive to how we are playing football.”
Last season, the Falcons were only a slight underdog in a wildcard game at MetLife stadium against the Giants, yet they got trounced 24-2. Making a deep post-season run is highest on Matt Ryan’s list of priorities. Ryan has led his team to the playoffs in three of the four seasons he’s been with the Falcons but has yet to get over the hump.
Taken by the Falcons with the third overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft, Matt Ryan is one of only two NFL quarterbacks to start all 16 games of the regular season in his rookie year and

AROUND THE WEB
Peter Konz, Charles Mitchell, Bradie Ewing and Matt Hanson were among the names that made some noise during day one of the Atlanta Falcons rookie camp on Friday. When asked about day two, Mike Smith said it was too early to call out any standouts but said that he liked the overall energy. Let's take a look around the web at some of the guys who garnered press in day two:
The Atlanta Falcons have signed rookie offensive lineman Peter Konz and three other draft picks to multiyear contracts.
Terms of the deals were not announced by the team.
Atlanta finished a three-day rookie minicamp on Sunday.
Konz, selected in the second round out of Wisconsin, will compete for the right guard job.
Atlanta signed fullback Bradie Ewing, a fifth-round pick from...
As a junior at Troy, Jonathan Massaquoi weighed about 260 pounds when he led the Sun Belt Conference with 131/2 sacks.
As a senior last season, Massaquoi was up to 275 pounds, and he had only six sacks.
Coach Mike Smith says the Atlanta Falcons were looking for the lighter version of Massaquoi when they selected the defensive end in the fifth round of last month's NFL draft...
Over the last few days we've profiled some guys we are going to be watching at the Falcons rookie camp this weekend. One interesting note is that our second round pick Peter Konz is being cross-trained at center and guard. Also, Lamar Holmes is going to miss the camp with a minor (keep your fingers crossed) foot injury. Here's the skinny on day one from Falcons mini-camp...
The Atlanta Falcons have signed second-round draft pick center Peter Konz. He was projected to be selected in the first round of the draft but was picked by the Falcons with the 55th overall pick. Konz spent most of the three-day rookie minicamp at right guard and received some snaps at center. I thought Peter did a nice job, Falcons coach Mike Smith said after the first practice...
The Atlanta Falcons have signed three more draft picks Wisconsin fullback Bradie Ewing, Mississippi State safety Charles Mitchell and South Carolina defensive tackle Travian Robertson. A fifth-round pick, Ewing is the Falcons' new starting fullback after the release of veteran Ovie Mughelli. Ewing was named an All-American and led the way for 30 touchdowns. Mitchell is a sixth...
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -- In his 2010 season at Troy, Jonathan Massaquoi weighed about 260 pounds when he led the Sun Belt Conference with 13 sacks.
Last season, Massaquoi was up to 275 pounds, and he had only six sacks.
Coach Mike Smith said Saturday the Atlanta Falcons were looking for the lighter version of Massaquoi when they selected the defensive end in the fifth round...
New Orleans Saints
In February of 2010, the Saints were on top of the world as Super Bowl Champions. However, like every reigning Super Bowl Champion before them since the 2003 New England Patriots, the Saints failed to win a playoff game, losing in embarrassing fashion to the Seattle Seahawks, a team that somehow qualified… (read more)
