With his closest competitors sitting out the final week of the season Maurice Jones-Drew did not need to carry the ball once on Sunday to clinch his first NFL rushing title.
Unfortunately for the Indianapolis Colts defense, Jones-Drew carried the ball 25 times for 169 yards and led the Jacksonville Jaguars to 19-13 victory at home.
In addition to winning the league rushing title, Jones-Drew also broke former Jaguars running back Fred Taylor’s franchise record for most rushing yards in a season. Jones-Drew finished the season with 1,606 rushing yards which is 34 yards better than the mark set by his mentor Taylor back in 2003.
The most impressive part about Jones-Drew’s season is that he managed to rack up all of those yards while playing with the worst passing offense in the NFL. He routinely saw eight and nine man fronts yet he still managed to average 4.7 yards per carry on the season.
With the win, the Jaguars finished the season with a disappointing 5-11 record.
