John Oehser reports that Jacksonville has already ruled out Maurice Jones-Drew out for Week 9′s game. No surprise here considering that Jones-Drew was sporting a boot on his injured foot and was using crutches to get around yesterday. ——— Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com believes there is a chance that this could be running back Maurice Jones-Drew‘s final season with the Jaguars. “Jones-Drew will miss several weeks with a foot injury, a new deal is highly unlikely given how owner Shahid Khan handled his holdout,” wrote La Canfora. “The Jags could seek to trade or release him, with a minimal cap hit of $1.8 million. He turns 28 this March.” Jones-Drew is slated to make $5 million next year, the final year of his current contract, so a trade or release of the running back could save the team over $3 million. La Canfora also notes that several teams expect Jones-Drew to hit the open market in 2013. It’s evident that Jones-Drew foot injury killed his chances at getting a new long-term deal with the Jaguars since he will be out for several weeks. Even if Jones-Drew is with the team at the beginning of next season, don’t expect to see him in Jaguars uniform following the 2013 season.
