Here we are…Week 4.  I’m looking at the conference standings and the Bengals are currently ranked 6th.  That puts us in the 2nd Wild Card spot so we make the playoffs.  YEAH!!!  Oh wait…it’s only week 4.  We’ve still got a way to go.  When I think of this season so far it reminds me ever-so slightly of last season.  Front loaded schedule…get of bunch of wins…and then hang on with all your might.  Something tells me that this kind of game plan just won’t work this year.

Here is another game that I penciled in an easy win for our boys in orange yet I’m incredibly worried.  Our 2nd from last rushing defense goes up against the 2nd rushing leader in the league.  Coincidence, weird or scary?  MJD has had knack for tearing apart even the best rush defenses in the league.  Now he stands on the other side of his offensive line, arms crossed and laughing saying, “Really?”  This guy makes Ray Rice looks like a baby.  God help Maualuga.  This is the time for him to finally step up his game and be the linebacker we’ve been waiting for him to be.  Either that or Burfict will gladly be taking his locker.  Have I pounded this fear of mine into your heads enough?  I’m worried about stopping the run.

Now, on the other side of the Jags offense I would normally think that there should be no problem…expect for the fact that we only have 2 healthy CBs.  Whatever happened to the good old days (the offseason) were we had more talent in the secondary then we knew what to do with?  Well those days are over and it only seems to be getting worse.  Thank god for our offense.  Let’s get to the prediction.

Week 1: Mon, Sep 10 – Cincinnati at Baltimore Ravens, 7 p.m. ET (ESPN)

13-44  L 0-1

1-0 on Picks

Week 2: Sun, Sep 16 – Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati, 1 p.m. ET (CBS)

37-27   W 1-1

2-0 on Picks

Week 3: Sun, Sep 23 – Cincinnati at Washington Redskins, 1 p.m. ET (CBS)

38-31 W 2-1

3-0 on Picks

Week 4: Sun, Sep 30 – Cincinnati at Jacksonville Jaguars, 4:05 p.m. ET (CBS)

Aside from all of our defensive woes, our offense is on FIRE.  The Dalton-Green duo last week looked like Godzilla and King Kong teaming up against the smurfs in a wrestling ring.  Not following my analogy?  That’s ok.  In plainer words…they destroyed the competition.  I don’t think any other team this year will settle for man coverage on Green like the ‘Skins did, but don’t worry.  ’Baby Hawk’, Binns and Gresham can easily take some of those yards when Green is being doubled and the offense will continue to flourish.  I’m hoping that Green-Ellis can find some holes this week in order to put some more numbers up for our running game but I’m not betting on it.

The only thing that the Bengals have to fear is Jones-Drew.  I think that the defense needs to do WHATEVER it can to ‘slow down’ the run.  I say ‘slow down’ because there is no stopping it.  If the defense can hold MJD to around 100 yards then it’ll force Gabbert to throw which SHOULD result in at least 1 INT at some point during the game.  Once again I’m picking my Bengals.  We should expect big numbers from the offense (in the 30s) and we’ll walk away with a W by 2 scores.  WHO DEY!
