By George Cain, Patriots Daily Guest Contributor Maybe looks ARE deceiving. I watch this Patriot defense and I think, there is no way they are going to the Super Bowl. Not enough talent, not enough health, not enough playmakers. You need balance on both sides of the ball right? But then I look around the league and I start to question my own eyes. If the Patriots make it to Indianapolis they will do it with one of the worst statistical regular season defenses of any representative in Super Bowl history. But, there have been teams with mediocre to bad defenses in recent years that have appeared in the big game. In just the last 6 years, New Orleans, Indianapolis and Arizona come to mind. New Orleans and Indianapolis walked out of those Super Bowls with the Lombardi Trophy. And Arizona, came pretty darn close. This is the NFL in the Polian rule era. Ironically, Bill Polian was the GM of the Buffalo Bills in the 90’s, an explosive offensive team better suited for today’s NFL. Polian wa...

USA Today: You be the GM

Bill Polian doesn't give many straight answers.  First he said that only running backs tend to contribute immediately.  Then he said he's not sure that trading a pick helps the team much.Confused? Polian is either great at deception (likely), unsure of his course of action (highly unlikely) or just providing entertainment (impossible).  So USA Today asks you to be the...

Bill Polian “can’t imagine” trading Colts’ first-round pick

The Colts will probably have the first overall pick in next year’s NFL draft and will definitely pick in the top three, and Bill Polian says he doesn’t want to trade down. Polian all but confirmed to Adam Schein and Rich Gannon on SiriusXM NFL Radio that he wants to stay put and draft Stanford…

Colts’ Polian Doesn’t Care to Trade Top Pick in the Draft

Earlier today we mentioned that Indianapolis Colts vice chairman Bill Polian was on SiriusXM Radio with Rich Gannon and Adm Schein.  He mentioned that he believes the Colts can afford to draft Andrew Luck and keep Peyton Manning as well. Polian also indicated that he’s not crazy about the thought of trading the first overall [...]

What to make of the most recent Bill Polian and Peyton Manning media dialogue?

Bill Polian and Peyton Manning have been the leaders of the Indianapolis Colts franchise for the past 14 years.  Since 1998 when Polian chose Manning over Ryan Leaf, they have been connected.  Peyton has always led this team on the field and Bill has led the front office.  They have won a super bowl together and have several other accomplishments together, but for some reason...

Polian not guaranteeing a roster spot to Manning next season

Indianapolis Colts vice chairman Bill Polian said it's no sure bet that Peyton Manning will be on the team's roster next season. "I don't know the answer to that," Polian said his weekly radio show. "There are so many variables involved that it's impossible to tell at this point in time. It's our fervent hope that he is. But I couldn't unequivocally...

Deep Posts: Should the Polians be forced to go?

Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star contends that when the Colts' miserable season ends, team owner Jim Irsay needs to do more than assemble the money needed to sign Andrew Luck … it might also be time to clean house in the coaching department and the front office. Head coach Jim Caldwell is almost certainly a goner, but there's more and more heat on Vice Chairman Bill...

No practice for Manning

The Colts have been reluctant to tell anyone much about Peyton Manning.  We know now that he will not practice with the team but rather continue to throw in post-practice rehab sessions: “He’s also concerned about not taking any reps away from Dan (Orlovsky) or Curtis (Painter) in terms of week’s preparation,” Caldwell said. “He’s going to focus in more of just the...

Colts President Bill Polian Unsure If QB Peyton Manning Will Return In 2012

There's a reasonable chance that Peyton Manning's already played his last game in a Colts uniform. But you'd never get anyone in the organization to admit the possibility that Manning wouldn't return, at least not right now. Or would you? Bill Polian, speaking on his weekly radio show Monday night said he "didn't know the answer" as to whether or not...

Caldwell: Manning won’t practice with team

Colts Vice Chairman Bill Polian revealed on his radio show Monday night that Peyton Manning has been throwing to teammates after practice with “decent velocity.” Colts coach Jim Caldwell was pressed on that assessment Tuesday, but wouldn’t give much away. “He’s rehabbing,” was all Caldwell would say via Philip B. Wilson of the Indianapolis Star...
