(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By JOSH DUBOW AP Sports Writer Rolando McClain arrived in Oakland two years ago amid expectations that he would be the impact middle linebacker who could transform a Raiders defense that had struggled to stop the run. Less than halfway through his third season with the Raiders, McClain has been relegated to spot duty. McClain is now only being used in base defensive packages, playing a season-low 17 defensive plays last week in Atlanta. While McClain figures to get more time Sunday against Maurice Jones-Drew and the run-oriented Jacksonville Jaguars (1-4), he will remain a part-time player for the Raiders (1-4) for the time being. --- Online: http://pro32.ap.org/poll and http://twitter.com/AP-NFL

Oakland Raiders QB Carson Palmer calls Jacksonville Jaguars game a must win

As the Oakland Raiders prepare for their home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday, quarterback Carson Palmer knows that it is a must win. With both teams entering the game with a 1-4 record and the Raiders only one and a half games back in the AFC West, they must string together wins starting this week.     “It’s a must win game for us,” Palmer said. “We had...

Oakland Raiders offense should excel against Jacksonville Jaguars

After a crushing loss to the Atlanta Falcons, the Oakland Raiders return home this Sunday to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars are coming off a bye and the teams have identical 1-4 records. The Raiders will be looking to continue the offensive success they had against the Falcons and take advantage of a subpar Jacksonville defense. Oakland was able to account for 474...

Curry returns to practice for Raiders

Linebacker Aaron Curry has returned to practice with the Oakland Raiders for the first time since May after dealing with nagging knee problems in recent months. Curry began the season on the physically unable to perform list and was unable to practice for the first six weeks. He made his first appearance on the field with his team on Wednesday, starting a three-week window for Oakland...

Goodson provides big-play boost for Raiders

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By JOSH DUBOW AP Sports Writer Mike Goodson is making the most of his limited opportunities as Darren McFadden's backup in Oakland. Goodson has shown a propensity for big plays off the bench so far this season for the Raiders and has filled a void at backup running back. Despite only 18 touches on offense, Goodson has gained...

Raiders activate LB Aaron Curry

The Oakland Raiders have added linebacker Aaron Curry to the team's active roster. Curry was taken off the physically unable to perform list Tuesday. Linebacker Vic So'oto was waived to make room on the 53-man roster. Curry was placed on the list at the start of training camp because of injured knees. He resumed practice on Oct. 17 and needed to be activated this week or...

Oakland Raiders Rookies Report

Last year seems so long ago.  The Raiders made a move to put them over the top in a very winnable decision, giving up draft picks for the chance at a franchise quarterback, and then Carson Palmer showed up and was a shell of what he used to be. The Raiders now sit at 1-4 and are in prime position to be in the sweepstakes for the one and only Geno Smith, but how did they get here...

Jacksonville Jaguars (1-4) at Oakland Raiders (1-4) NFL Week 7 Preview

Sam Greenwood/Getty Images Follow @Dan Vasta and like Gridiron Grit on Facebook  O, boy o boy is this matchup the one to keep a close eye on! I kid because I care, but seriously these teams practically draw zero interest by the entire nation. After all, two of these quarterbacks have been brutal albeit one a bit more than the other. Jacksonville’s Blaine Gabbert could shock...

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Oakland Raiders: Three Bold Predictions

I admit I have an unhealthy reverence for teams coming off a bye week. I want to believe they are a better team off the bye week. I want to believe they have righted their wrongs during the bye week. I want to believe their wide receivers will stop dropping a league high 12.8 percent  of their passes. But most importantly, I want to believe the coaching staff understands they...

Raiders' secondary took step forward in loss to Falcons

To borrow from cliche, what didn't kill the Oakland Raiders' secondary has apparently made the unit stronger. The Raiders lost both of their starting cornerbacks, Ron Bartell (broken scapula) and Shawntae Spencer (foot sprain) in the first two weeks, and neither looks to be returning within the next couple of weeks. Taking it on the chin through the first four games of...

With the promising Jake Locker nearing a return, underachieving Titans running back Chris Johnson will rightfully become an afterthought in Tennessee

Considering that Chris Johnson has proven to be a bush league player, the thrifty Tennessee Titans will certainly never pick up the wannabe star’s $9 million option after this season. The 27-year-old Johnson, who the Titans (2-4) chose out of … Continue reading →
