TEAMS: New England Patriots, New York Jets
Devin McCourty has been named AFC special teams player of the week despite a costly fumble for the New England Patriots.
He received the honor on Wednesday for a 104-yard kickoff return in a 29-26 overtime win over the New York Jets last Sunday. The touchdown and extra point tied the game 7-7.
''That's more of a special teams, kickoff return award,'' McCourty said. ''When you look at that play, the returns were all guys blocking up front and me just catching the ball and running to where it's open.''
In the fourth quarter, he fumbled the kickoff after Nick Folk tied the score at 23 with a 43-yard field goal with 2:06 left in the fourth quarter. Antonio Allen recovered and Folk kicked another 43-yarder with 1:37 to go. The Patriots tied the game on Stephen Gostkowski's 43-yard field goal on the last play of regulation.

Around the NFL: Week 8
With six teams on a bye, week seven was three games short of a full complement of games. Where the games lacked in number, they made up for in suspense.
During the week, 13 games were played. Of those 13 games, 11 were decided by one score.
Two went into overtime, one was decided by a single point, and another was decided by the white paint that lines the back end of the end zone...
Devin McCourty's Switch to Safety Could Finally Tie the Patriots' Struggling Secondary Together
Even after nearly fumbling the game away for the Patriots, Devin McCourty still earned rare praise from Bill Belichick.
Injuries to starting safeties Patrick Chung and Steve Gregory thrust McCourty into a starting spot at free safety on Sunday against the Jets, a role he played late last season after multiple players tried -- and failed -- to grasp the position...

Patriots Fantasy Football: It's time for Brandon Lloyd to hit the bench
Brandon Lloyd has been a disappointment thus far in the season in more ways than one for Patriot fans. And although Lloyd's spectacular sideline grabs may temporarily blind Pats fans from his other weaknesses, his inability to catch easy passes almost cost New England the game against the Jets last week. Lloyd dropped two passes over the middle that would've gone for big...
Poll: Are Patriots fans getting too negative?
After the Patriots subpar start to the season, some fans are ready to throw themselves off a cliff.Everyone has gotten play in the blame game - from Bill Belichick to the secondary to the pass rush to Brandon Lloyd to even Tom Brady. With a 4-3 record and some devastating losses, I think this team deserves criticism. Some people disagree. What say you, Patriot fan?Are fans getting...

Visanthe Shiancoe Excited About Return to Practice Field, Ready to Contribute for Patriots
Visanthe Shiancoe hadn't stepped onto the football field for the Patriots this season. That changed Tuesday afternoon.
The 32-year-old tight end has been on short-term injured reserved with an undisclosed injury since the Patriots first signed him back on Sept. 5. But on Tuesday, the nine-year veteran finally returned the practice field, and he couldn't...
Vote: How Many Passing Yards Will Sam Bradford Throw for in Sunday's Game Against the Patriots?
The Patriots secondary has been the brunt of recent coverage jokes, and rightfully so. The Pats have given up 290 yards of offense through the air per game, ranking them as the fourth-worst team in the NFL in that category. The three teams beneath them are the Saints, Buccaneers and Redskins, who have a combined record of 7-12. Yet, with all of their defensive woes, New England sits...
Patriots invade Britain
According to the New England Patriots official Facebook page, the Pats arrived at Heathrow Airport in London 10 minutes ago, at 2:18 a.m., Eastern time. Below is a photo that the Patriots Facebook and Instagram accounts uploaded yesterday, prior to Vince Wilfork and the team's flight to England.
Patriots Must Improve
The New England Patriots are 4-3 and look like a very mediocre football team right now.
“The Patriots are one of the best teams in the NFL”, well at least that is what everyone was saying before the season started. After the week one beat down of the Tennessee Titans, it looked like those people were correct, but since then it has been a different...

People Realize Gronk and Hernandez Aren't 100% Yet, Right?
There is a story line going around this week that "the Patriots offense isn't what it used to be." Ummm, do people remember what we were saying after Week 1? When we had all our guys healthy and we completely eviscerated the Titans? We were talking about how this was the best offense since 2007, and it may be even better than that, remember? The attention span of our...
