Mike Tomlin has lit a match under a few stars on his team and has shaken up his Pittsburgh Steelers lineup for various reasons as they prepare to play in Baltimore on Sunday. There will be changes in the offensive line and linebacker because of injuries, and changes at safety and wide receiver because of the return of injured players. Two of the biggest changes will occur not because of injuries but lack of production. Rashard Mendenhall, who has been the starting halfback since 2009 and mostly a productive one, has been demoted to third-string by Tomlin. Jonathan Dwyer will start against the Ravens and Isaac Redman will back him up. "I'm just going to do whatever I'm asked to," said Mendenhall, who ran for 1,273 yards in 2010. "I don't really think much of it. I've been in a lot of positions so I'm just approaching this week as I approach every week." Perhaps even more stunning was the move Tomlin made to at least get a message acros...

Mike Wallace losing millions every game

Saying Mike Wallace’s name is probably enough to get a grimace from most Pittsburgh Steelers fans, if not a full-out diatribe. It is a hole Mike Wallace has dug for himself, though. From promising rookie, to rising star, to possibly being exposed as a one-trick pony has Mike Wallace earned the criticism he deserved? Last year Mike Wallace started out fantastically and then fell...

Mike Tomlin Says WR Mike Wallace Is Rightfully Frustrated

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked during his Tuesday press conference to talk about the performance of wide receiver Mike Wallace on Sunday and if his role will change moving forward. "You know, Mike was frustrated on Sunday and rightfully so," said Tomlin. "He is not producing in the manner he would like to or we would like him to. It’s a function...

Tomlin in a No-Win Situation This Week

If Mike Tomlin were a Major League Baseball player he’d be in a slump of epic proportions. He’s not of course but his decision-making of late has been anything less than a home run let alone a base hit. From benching every running back that fumbled the football to his odd decisions to go for long field goals, call for fake field goals and go on fourth down at mid-field, Tomlin...

NFL Rumors: 2012 Will Be Last Season For Rashard Mendenhall With Pittsburgh Steelers

Many people figured that going into the 2012 NFL season, it could be the final year we see Rashard Mendenhall in a Pittsburgh Steelers uniform. It had little to do with the fact that he was coming off of a major knee injury from the end of last season, but the team made little effort to lock him up to a long term deal even before the injury. With Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman in...

Perhaps Tomlin should just draw straws at Running Back this week

There were so many things that went wrong for the Steelers, in the week 12 loss to the Browns, not the least of which was the 6 fumbles (4 of them lost) by the running backs. No sense going back and reliving the 3 interceptions by Charlie Batch and the final fumble on the last drive of the game; but hey, who’s counting? For the last month or so Mike Tomlin has preached about going...

Steelers Injury Report: Door Open For Roethlisberger; Brown & Polamalu To Practice This Week

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin held is normal Tuesday press conference today and ran down the injury report for the upcoming week as the team gets ready to play the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Tomlin started off by saying that they have some guys that could possibly work themselves back this week. Wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery (ribs) ran on Monday, according to Tomlin...

The Terrible Podcast – Talking Depth Chart Changes, Browns Wrap Up & John Eisenberg Interview Episode

Season 3, Episode 48 of The Terrible Podcast is up and co-host David Todd and I discuss the talking points that came out of the Tuesday press conference by Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. We discuss the changes on the depth chart at wide receiver and running back as well as a few other tidbits that Tomlin left for us to chew on. The injury report had a few new names...

Rashard Mendenhall demoted, Jonathan Dwyer now the starter in Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made Jonathan Dwyer their new starting running back and have demoted Rashard Mendenhall to third string.  Isaac Redman will back up Dwyer. There’s no doubt though that Dwyer has been the Steelers’ best back this season, which is why he deserves to be their starter.   var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script...

Tomlin Names RB; Injured Returning

Get your last kicks in on the Pittsburgh Steelers, because they won’t be down for much longer. Mike Tomlin has settled on a back, and the injured players, including Ben Roethlisberger, are matriculating back onto the practice field.

Ben Roethlisberger Still Unlikely To Be Ready To Play Against Ravens

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday during his press conference that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw on Monday and that the door was still open for him to play Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. While that sounds like a very optimistic outlook, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported via Twitter on Tuesday after Tomlin talked to the media that...

Status of Big Ben still up in the air, but will wear reinforced shoulder pads

Steelers QB Big Ben Roethlisberger spoke to the media on Thursday and updated his status for Sunday’s game in Baltimore. He didn’t box himself in one way or the other, but did leave the door open just as Mike Tomlin mentioned earlier this week. “Yeah, there’s always a chance. We’ll go out and re-evaluate it again today. See how it feels after today. I can play through...

Jonathan Dwyer To Start Against The Ravens? New Depth Chart Shows Him On Top

The pre game media release for the Pittsburgh Steelers upcoming game Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens is now out and the included depth chart has a noticeable change on it at the running back position. Jonathan Dwyer is listed atop the running backs this week on the depth chart with Isaac Redman listed behind him and Rashard Mendenhall listed third. In the pre game release...

Steelers' Dwyer named Sunday starter

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jonathan Dwyer will start at the position Sunday in Baltimore, head coach Mike Tomlin announced. Tomlin cited consistency and health as reasons that he chose Dwyer. "He's been consistently the most productive guy," Tomlin told reporters. "I think we have a large enough body of work to be able to identify that at this point....

The Steelers will live and die by the Offensive Line on Sunday

Last week against the Browns was not the norm, obviously. You don’t see the Steelers turning the ball over 8 times on a regular basis. It was a complete team effort in futility but we shouldn’t expect that this team will just fall apart even after a terrible game like that. You can say that when Ben Roethlisberger is on the field, magical things happen inspite of having a sub...
