There’s only two reasons the Miami Dolphins parade in players for workouts at the end of the week.
It either has to do with a player suffering a last minute injury, or a player falling short of the team’s expectations.
That’s why its a bit surprising to learn that the Dolphins began auditioning kicker on Thursday.
Dan Carpenter, the team’s kicker the past four seasons, hasn’t exactly been struggling.
Sure he missed a 49-yard field goal last week, but the former Montana standout has made 18-of-22 field goals this season, and is 14 of 14 on extra points. He’s also kicked his fair amount of touchdowns this season.
Carpenter hasn’t been listed on the injury report. But truth is that means little in the secretive land of the Dolphins, where nearly a dozen players have injuries that don’t make the injury report.
That brings us to the NFL Network, which is reporting the Dolphins worked out three veteran kickers - Jeff Reed, Shayne Graham and Rhys Lloyd – on Thursday.
