The Miami Dolphins running game is still a work in progress, and that work continues as the Dolphins have claimed former Houston Texans RB Steve Slaton off the waiver wire. Slaton was able to create some buzz in his rookie season, rushing for over 1200 yards and ten scores, but injuries plagued him in the 2009 season.
Slaton suffered from a neck injury which limited his production and, according to several reports, caused his turnover issue, as he fumbled frequently. Slaton was never able to regain the success he enjoyed in his rookie season and also has never played a complete season since.
The fact that the Dolphins claimed Slaton might be telling on their assessment of Reggie Bush. Slaton is more suited to be a 15-20 carry a game back than Bush, which the Dolphins had said Bush would become in their offensive scheme this season. But, Slaton is also a very good receiver out of the backfield, catching 94 passes in his first two seasons in the league.
