Great googly moogly is that thing freaky or what?  It’s a perfect replication of what Lydon Murtha’s arm would look like if zombies came and completely ripped away the skin, leaving only the muscles, tendons and vasculature.

Murtha, a 7th round pick in 2009 by the Detriot Lions and current offensive tackle for the Dolphins, fulfilled a lifelong dream when he got this skinless arm sleeve tattoo.  Not only is the former Nebraska Cornhusker’s ink impressive, it’s anatomically accurate to boot.

And totally *******’.

According to Murtha the entire project took 48 hours over several weeks to complete, in a process he described as consisting of “a lot of pain.”  For a guy who’s listed at 6-foot-7 and 315-pounds, and who routinely gets pounded on by defensive lineman of equal or greater size, to say that something caused him a lot of pain is kind of scary when you think about it.  I dare say that if your average person tried replicating the tattoo on Murtha’s left arm that their pituitary gland would be left shriveled and broken trying to release enough endorphins to dull the pain…and that’s just during the stencil transfer.

Said Murtha, via the Sun-Sentinel…

“Five hour sessions per week, a lot of pain,” said Murtha, who is competing for the Dolphins’ starting right tackle spot. “I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s an all-in thing. Once you start you can’t stop.

“It’s something I wanted to do my whole life. I had the time, a little extra money and I went all-in.”

But the 26-year-old isn’t done there.  Next up for the Fins tackle is a robotic arm tattooed on his right hand, which may trump the skinless arm sleeve he has now in coolness factor, depending on how it turns out.

Until the robotic arm tattoo comes to fruition, Murtha will just have to be content in having what is arguably the most badass tattoo in all of football, if not the entire sporting world.
