And the roster churning continues in Davie.
The Miami Dolphins released veteran tailback Larry Johnson on Tuesday, cutting the seven-year veteran for the second time in a month.
Johnson, who was added two weeks ago as insurance because of the hamstring injury Daniel Thomas was nursing, fell short of impressing the coaching staff during his two week tryout.
Johnson didn’t play in the season-opener against the Patriots, and got just one carry in Sunday’s loss to the Houston Texans, rushing for 2 yards.
With Daniels healthy enough to rush for 107 yards against the Texans the Dolphins didn’t see a need to keep this former two-time Pro Bowler around.
Because Johnson used his veteran termination pay clause last season the Dolphins aren’t on the hook for his contract despite the fact he was on the opening day roster. An NFL source says veterans can only use that clause once in their NFL career and Johnson used it last season when he was released by the Redskins.
