It’s only taken four seasons, three coaching staffs, and two positions, but the Miami Dolphins think former first-round pick Jason Allen has finally arrived.
Jason Allen’s finally ready to handle a starting role in the NFL.
On Monday coach Tony Sparano stood firm with his decision to start Allen, who has struggled to be more than a special teams contributor since the Dolphins selected him 16th overall in 2006, over the struggling Sean Smith.
Sparano has praised Allen most of training camp, pointing out that he’s had his hands on more balls than any other cornerback.
The coaches have rewarded Allen with two starts in the exhibition seasons, and will now give him a tryout as a full-time starter against Buffalo in Sunday’s regular season opener.
