The Miami Dolphins added a veteran inside linebacker to the training camp roster this weekend, and it wasn’t Channing Crowder. The Dolphins signed former Tennessee standout Marvin Mitchell on Sunday after a series of linebacker workouts. Mitchell was added to cushion the injury/loss of Austin Spitler, who sprained his left ankle during Friday night’s 28-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons. The Dolphins could have easily called Crowder and asked the former Gator standout to return to his old team, but opted against it. Crowder retired from the NFL last week after six seasons as a Dolphins starter because his desire to continue playing professional football didn’t exceed his desire to remain in South Florida with his pregnant wife. Mitchell, a 2007 seventh-round pick of the New Orleans Saints, has recorded 89 tackles in his four seasons in the NFL.
