The Miami Dolphins look forward to getting on the football field when they take on the Carolina Panthers on Friday night in week 2 of the NFL preseason.

The Dolphins spent a crazy week mired in controversy as they parted ways with embattled wide out Chad Johnson. Johnson was arrested after a fight with his wife and the team cut him shortly after the incident. With the bright lights of HBO’s Hard Knocks, the Dolphins cut the flamboyant wideout and now look to move on.

The Dolphins will be fine without Chad Johnson as rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill will have plenty of targets to throw at in this game.  Tannehill will be the big story on the Dolphins offense but it will be interesting to see how ex-Panther Matt Moore performs in his old stadium. Although Moore left as a free agent, this will be his first start at Bank of America stadium since leaving. This will give some serious motivation to the starting quarterback rotation of the Dolphins.

Miami lost their first game of the preseason against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but Tannehill looked great in his debut finishing the game with a QB rating of over 100. In fact although they lost, they out-gained the Bucs in total yardage by the final tally of 354-269.

The Dolphins do have a few injuries to be concerned with in this game. Linebacker Karlos Dansby has been kept from practicing over the last two days thanks to an undisclosed issue and wide receiver Brian Hartline hasn’t been able to practice because of a calf problem.

Cam Newton Could Be in For a Long Season

Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers will be looking for redemption after an awful opener against the Houston Texans. Newton looked isolated as the one player that had any motivation and the end result was awful. As a team, the Panthers allowed eight sacks and they were shredded on defense. They were outgained 375-137 and allowed 174 yards on the ground. This may not improve since linebackers Jon Beason and Thomas Davis will be sitting out for this game. Some expect Newton may bring a Super Bowl to Carolina, but they need to get it togther.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Dolphins are in the midst of a transition from the 3-4 to the 4-3 and so they are focusing on defense and will be able to expose the offensive line of the Panthers.

The Panthers are still working out the kinks and are behind the power curve in preparing for the regular season. The Panthers should not be favored in this game and it would be surprising if they win. Although the Dolphins lost the first game they are coming together as a unit quicker than the Panthers and the end result will be a road win for the Dolphins.
