Well, football season is finally here! Quarterbacks throwing 7 touchdowns, game winning field goals, and plays that make fans jump out of their seats are all sure to happen. Or in one case, already have. This Sunday, the Miami Dolphins will begin their 2013-2014 season against the Browns at 1:00p.m. The Dolphins and Browns are ready to show that they have improved this offseason. The Dolphins enter this game with an improved defense and passing game. With that being said, the passing game will be tested come this Sunday. The Browns run a unique 2-4-5 scheme that allows for a lot of blitzes from literally anywhere from the field. On defense, the Browns do line up with 4 people on the defensive line. The catch with that is the two “defensive ends” are in fact outside linebackers. Using linebackers in that way allows the defensive coordinator to either blitz with them, use them to play zone, or serve as a disguise in man-to-man schemes. However they will be used, Ryan Tannehill and the offensive line will have to account for them on every down. With the improvement during the offseason, I’m sure the offensive line will be prepared for whatever Cleveland throws at them. As long as they pick up the blitz, Tannehill should have no problem finding an open receiver. The Browns offense is still young, and although they did not choose to make many offseason moves, their key players are returning with even more chemistry than last year. Brandon Weeden will be out to prove himself after last year’s sub-par performance. Trent Richardson is already a beast, and he will try to eclipse his stats from last year. While the Browns offense does have some threats, the Dolphins defense has more talent. Led by defensive lineman Cameron Wake, the Dolphins have a front seven that can compete with any team. While Wake may have the lone notable name, the Dolphin’s defense really play as a unit. As long as the defense contains Richardson, the Dolphins should have no problem keeping the Browns away from the end zone. My Prediction: This being the first game for both teams, don’t expect it to be perfect. Game speed is far different from practice , so players will be adjusting to get into a rhythm. The Dolphins will prevail due to the talent and toughness that they have over the Browns. Final Score: Dolphins 24, Browns 17
