With Matt Forte's deal in the books, the Chicago Bears will finally get a look at their new 1-2 punch at running back when training camp gets underway in a few days.

Ex-Oakland Raider Michael Bush signed a four-year contract to come to Chicago, and took reps with the first-team offense during Organized Team Activities and minicamp while Forte worked out on his own while in contract negotiations.

With Forte back, Bush is expected to fill the complimentary role the Bears signed him for. One that both Marion Barber III and Chester Taylor both failed in the past few seasons.

For Bush, this is a role he is very familiar in, and one he thrived in while in Oakland. Early in his career, he was the backup to both Darren McFadden and Justin Fargas. However, he always managed to get his carries while the two players were often injured. As a primary backup, he averaged more than four yards per carry every year while also frequently finding the end zone.

Last season, Bush started a lot of games due to another injury to McFadden. He set career highs in both carries (256) and yards (977) but fell below four yards per carry for the first time in his career

“I don’t know if (Bush) can be a full-time guy, but he’s a great complement to Forté,” one league evaluator told PFW. “He’s punishing. He’s a capable receiver with some speed … a decent pass protector. He knows what he is.”

The league knows Bush excels in short-yardage and goal-line situations. That's where Chicago sees him receiving a bulk of his carries to enhance the Bears running game.
