Full disclosure: I own Michael Smith on my only fantasy football team. More on that later, but at least you know that.Prior to the NFL season getting underway, I read the Falcons were going to move to a more uptempo style offense. I thought, why not? Matt Ryan is one of the good young quarterbacks in the league, and has a arsenal of weapons at his disposal. Julio Jones, Roddy White, and Tony Gonzalez are his primary receiving targets, and Gonzalez is a lock for the Hall of Fame. In the backfield, bruiser Michael Turner was a threat to run so play-action would be heavily featured. And Turner has great hands for a running back.Photo courtesy of Wiki CommonsAnd that's where it all fell apart for Turner. The uptempo offense has left him behind. To date, he only has 529 rushing yards through the first nine games. There is a possibility that he may not even get 1,000 yards rushing this season. He's on pace to have his lowest rushing per game average since he joined the falcons in 2008. Yesterday, in the Falcons first loss of the season, Turner had 15 yards on 13 carries. While the rushing yards are a disappointment, the important thing to consider with Turner is his age. Yes, he's more of a rolling boulder than a speedster, but he's hit the magic age for running backs. He's 30 years old.And you could even say he's on his way to being replaced. Jacquizz Rodgers is the back-up running back in Atlanta. He's 22. And he's a speedster. In other words, he's a perfect fit for what the Falcons are trying to do on offense. Who knows if he'll be more featured going forward into next seasonTurner has one more season left on his contract, and I'll guarantee he won't be a Falcon after that.As for me, Turner is killing my fantasy team. He was one of three keepers I held over from last years squad. Last year, Turner was the 20th ranked player in my league with over 1300 rushing yards. This year, he's 57th. Ouch. Well, Mr. Turner, it's been a good ride, but I'll be looking for another running back next year.
