The single biggest question facing the New York Jets this offseason is who will start at quarterback? Last year second round draft pick Geno Smith showed flashes of potential, but also proved inconsistent. He completed just 55 percent of his passes and threw 21 interceptions to just 12 touchdowns. Rookie quarterbacks are expected to struggle to some extent but the signing of Michael Vick in March proves that the Jets front office at the very least wants an insurance policy. Vick’s resume speaks for itself. During his prime he was arguably the most athletic quarterback ever to play in the NFL. He has been injury prone in recent years but is still capable of putting on a show. Smith has been taking first team reps thus far through training camp and Rex Ryan has been adamant that he is the starter. And yet that hasn’t stopped speculation that Vick will supplant Smith soon enough. If you ask Vick though, he won’t even entertain the question. On Thursday ESPN’s Rich Cimini did just that, and Vick decided he was done. Have a look: Perhaps Vick just doesn’t want to undercut his young quarterback. Then again he could be tired of all the speculation, or he may know deep down that sooner or later he will get his chance.
