Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren made an apperance on ESPN 850 WKNR in Cleveland with the Really Big Show (via SportsRadioInterviews.com) and admitted that they were targeting wide receiver Kendall Wright with the 22nd pick, but once the Titans drafted him, they settled for quarterback Brandon Weeden who was their plan B. “We went into the draft, particularly in the first round with picks four and 22 and we included pick 37 with a plan of trying to come out of there with three players at the different positions,” said Holmgren.  ”Like most drafts it didn’t quite happen that way so we went to Plan B which we talked about and we weren’t going to wait on Weeden so we picked him at 22 and really by that time we didn’t want to lose the tackle which was very important so it kind of evolved that way. Having said that, there’s a chance between now and the time the season we tee up that there will be an addition to the wide receiver group but if there isn’t then honestly I feel prett...

We’ve heard from Mike Holmgren several times over the last few months say that he expects the Browns to take a significant leap forward. Not just in ‘intangibles’ but in the win column. The Browns were 4-12 last season, and 5-11 in his first year as President of the team. In an interview on ESPN Cleveland today, Holmgren was asked by Tony Rizzo what happens if the team doesn’t...

Coaches question Brandon Weeden’s NFL ability

One knock on QB Brandon Weeden is his age, but now two college coaches call into question the signal caller’s ability to play in the NFL under pressure. After playing in a shotgun, quick pass offense at Oklahoma State, Weeden’s ability to thrive under center while under heavy pressure has been questioned. The Cleveland Plain Dealer spoke to two coaches which coached against Weeden...

Will Weeden’s Happy Feet Force Cleveland To Start Colt McCoy?

Coaches are coming forward from the college ranks, they are saying Brandon Weeden the Browns second pick in the NFL draft may not be able to handle the pressure of the NFL pass rush. The Cleveland Browns may have picked a guy that could panic when the pocket starts to collapse. Colt McCoy faced an awful lot of pressure last year and the NFL teams that will play the Browns this season...

Brandon Weeden Must Earn Starting Job for the Cleveland Browns

“We drafted a young quarterback that we think can come in and play right away, but we’re not just going to hand him the football. I still love Colt McCoy, but we had a chance to get a mature quarterback who has a chance to come in and contribute right away. Whether that happens or not we have to let it play out. We have to let them compete. We have to let them play and see what...

But logical reasoning indicates both are favorites to be in the backfield for the opener. Coach Pat Shurmur said no one is guaranteed a starting spot, especially rookies. "I think that is the speech I give all of the rookies," Shurmur...

Draft Grades: Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans are stuck in limbo. They’re not in full rebuilding mode, but they aren’t legitimate contenders. As a result, they had a tough decision to make in this draft: address immediate holes, or draft for the future. Based on their early selections it seems as though they chose the latter, which was probably the right decision. The Titans shocked a lot of people with...
