The Jacksonville Jaguars new head coach Mike Mularkey said he was pleased by the team’s progress from the first day to the second day of minicamp this weekend. ”They wasted a lot of energy with nerves Friday. It was hotter today, but they had better energy and better production. It was evident they felt more comfortable,” he said Saturday.

Arriving from a solid Atlanta Falcons squad where he was the offensive coordinator, Mularkey takes over a ball club which ranked 28th in scoring and dead last in total offense last year. Fortunately, the Jaguars were able to capture the top prize among wide receivers in this year’s draft – Justin Blackmon – whose presence on the field should take some pressure off both second-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert and the Jaguars’ running game.

Mularkey also indicated Saturday that the team was poised to sign a new place kicker for OTA’s if Josh Scobee doesn’t show up. Scobee hasn’t signed his franchise tender yet and is holding out for a better contract.

Anger moves toward proving worth with Jags

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Before third-round draft pick Bryan Anger even arrived in Jacksonville, the Jaguars eliminated all competition for the team's punting job. After three days of rookie camp, it looks like a sound decision. Anger averaged about 5 seconds of hang time during the camp, showing why the Jaguars used an early round pick on a special teams player. Whether...

Draft Grades: Jacksonville Jaguars

I feel like I should apologize to Jacksonville Jaguars fans for GM Gene Smith. He continues to make a mockery of the NFL Draft. In his first few years at the helm Smith showed an inexplicable obsession with small school prospects. And while that phase seems to have passed, he’s moved on to 3rd-round punters and 28-year-old D-II players. The Jags draft got off to a solid start with...
