Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said he was pleased with the play of rookie Roy Helu in Helu’s first professional start, but the coach declined to say whether the Nebraska product would start next week against Miami.
Helu had a franchise record 14 catches – most of them on dump-off passes from John Beck -- for 105 yards and carried the ball 10 times for 41 yards in Washington’s 19-11 loss to San Francisco.

Hot Off the Grill Roy Helu RB, Redskins In PPR leagues, this guy could be a top 15 RB for the rest of the season, but in standard leagues, think top 20-25 which is starter material. I’ve got to think that Ryan Torain had his chance and didn’t do a whole lot with it. My partner has said from ...
Week 9 was an eye opener just like every week of the season. Nothing ever goes as you plan. I’m looking at you Darrius, Willis, Timmy, Beanie, Miles, Reggie and the whole Peanuts gang. But we move on and hope we make the correct choices from here on out! Or at least more correct than those other dudes and ladies in our leagues. Here’s a look at some of the news from Sunday.
After any tough loss–or tough streak–it’s hard for a coach to find the right things to say to inspire. Egos get fragile under pressure, and the character and culture of a team can be lost in moments of frustration.
Following yesterday’s loss, head coach Mike Shanahan lamented the results, but praised the effort of his men, who did not give in to expectations or...

It's Washington Redskins quarterback John Beck, who is 0--7 in seven career starts.
Beck went 0--4 for the Dolphins in...
Mike Shanahan isn't backing down when he says he's stakes his reputation on Washington Redskins quarterbacks Rex Grossman and John Beck.
Shanahan made that statement after the first training camp practice in July.
So far, the two have yet to justify the coach's faith. Grossman was benched after committing 11 turnovers in five starts, and Beck is 0-3 since taking over...
Going up against his former team, John Beck looks to help the Redskins avoid
losing a fifth consecutive game for the first time in 10 years.
If we're going to declare the John Beck era a failure, we can't just look at the fourth-worst passer rating in the league (ahead of Rex!), or the twice as many INTs and TDs, or the zero passes for 40+ yards. We've got to ask: does he have the look of a quarterback: standing tall under pressure, proud, graceful? More »
The Miami Dolphins are certainly feeling good coming off their first victory.
Washington Redskins quarterback John Beck is still searching for his.
Going up against his former team, Beck looks to help the Redskins avoid losing a fifth consecutive game for the first time in 10 years when they visit the Dolphins on Sunday.
After opening with seven consecutive defeats, Miami took...
I can’t quibble with WaPo’s fine choice for their Redskins-49ers front page photo, but I will say this would’ve been an acceptable alternative:
(I’m not sure who shot this very Redskins photo. I got it from @willbrinson.)
