Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan told Pro Football Talk that they don’t need to run the read-option to be successful on offense. “You don’t have to run it,” Shanahan said.  “That’s the big factor that the offense has.  You may not run it one time in a game.  We got a base offense that we run you know with the spread option, the pistol, whatever you want to call it.  You know, that’s just one phase of what we do, so if they’re going to spend a lot of time stopping that, then we think our other offense will be able to be executed very well.” I think Shanahan knows they’re going to have to cut down on how much they run the read-option next season. Defenses will start to catch up and he’s also not going to want to put Robert Griffin III in harm’s way the way he did in 2012.  He has some out and said that Griffin needs to slide.   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })();
