Look, I’m just as disappointed as many of you are about the 2012 Pittsburgh Steelers. It was a season that offered some promise and at the very least another trip to the playoffs if nothing else. Those dreams crashed and burned with offensive ineptitude and a defense that couldn’t create enough big plays. There will be and is lots of blame to go around and I know this will upset some of you but Mike Tomlin is not getting fired. Did he have a poor season? Well, that’s like asking if the Rooney Family is Irish. Like players, coaches can have bad seasons too and Tomlin certainly falls in to that category. Those of you calling for him to be sent packing must be forgetting that you root for the Pittsburgh Steelers. This is a franchise that has had three, count’em THREE head coaches since 1969!! The Rooney Family does not take kindly to knee jerk reactions and they won’t in this case either. Do you realize how ridiculous we sound to other teams’ fans when we call for a guy who has been to...

  • I am not a fan of Mike Tomlin, but I also know how the Rooney's operate. Must be nice to coach a team when everything was given to given to you. Yeah he won a super bowl with Cowher's team and also loss one by getting outcoached. That is the theme with Tomlin. This guy gets outcoached all the time. He had the players and his coaching failed. Not only his coaching, but his drafting of players leaves a lot to desired. But he knows how to talk himself out of his failures. There was no discipline this year. Hey, Mike give Tony a call and he will give you advice on discipline. The main reason he is the head coach because Tony Dungy gave the Rooney's a good reference on this inexperience coach. I never saw a coach make the same mistakes over and over again.

Two Changes the Steelers Must Make in 2013

The personnel side of changes will take care of themselves as the off-season begins about 4pm on Sunday for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Decisions of who will be cut and who will be scouted in the draft are already underway but there are two specific changes I’m looking forward to the Steelers making on the coaching staff. The first thing that needs to be addressed is somewhat taking...

Roethlisberger blames self for Steelers collapse

Ben Roethlisberger's passing rating and passing yards per game are up from his career average, while his completion rate is the same it's been over his eight year NFL career.   But Roethlisberger says its how he's played which has put the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-8) out of the playoffs. "A lot of it just has to do with me not playing well enough down the stretch...

Steelers represented at the Pro Bowl with 2 players, none from the defense

For the 12th year in a row the Steelers will send multiple players to represent the team in the annual Pro Bowl game. Now, multiple normally implies more than 2, at least in my mind but considering how this season as gone there really weren’t many deserving on the team unfortunately so we’ll take what we can get right? This is the fewest number the team has sent since 2000 when...

Boomer Esiason: Roethlisberger a 'Drama Queen'

Steelers' head coach Mike Tomlin said of his quarterback, "Guys like Ben [Roethlisberger], competitors, playing football is like breathing to them." And Tomlin's been faced with decisions over and... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~ http://www.bobsblitz.com

Steelers NT Casey Hampton Open To Playing Elsewhere Next Season

Steelers NT Casey Hampton has been a staple of Pittsburgh’s defense for the past 12 seasons, but the 35-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and there has been plenty of attention paid to the overall age of the team’s defense unit. Hampton appears to be more than aware of the situation that he’ll be faced with in March, but believes...

Ben Roethlisberger at a loss to explain drop in 4th quarter rallies this season

It was almost a staple in Pittsburgh. Being down in the fourth quarter pushed the Steelers offense into overdrive, with Big Ben manufacturing late rallies to win close games. This season, not so much, and QB Ben Roethlisberger can’t quite put his finger on it. He’s 2 for 7 in 8 games that were decided by 3 points. "In the past, I've prided myself and our team in...

Some veterans to play final game for Steelers

For the first time since he was taken in the third round in the 2009 draft, Mike Wallace will miss a regular-season game for the Steelers. It might well be the first of many games Pittsburgh plays without the speedster receiver going forward. An injury in his left hip and hamstring area will prevent Wallace from playing in the Steelers' season finale Sunday against the Cleveland...

LeBeau intends on returning to Steelers in 2013

Armed with a promise from his beloved defensive coordinator that he wouldn't retire without first informing his players, Ryan Clark threatened to avoid Dick LeBeau. ''I didn't want to hear it, so I've told him, `If you try to leave, well, you didn't see me and tell me, so you can't,''' said Clark, the Steelers' free safety. ''...

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau told his players that intends on returning for his 10th season with the franchise, via NFL.com. “Let’s just say I really like Pittsburgh and I really like working for the Steelers,” LeBeau said. “Coach Tomlin will tell you if he wants me back or not. It will be up to Mike.” Pittsburgh currently ranks No. 1 in total...

WFNY Podcast – 2012-12-29 – Craig talks to Dave Bryan from SteelersDepot.com about the Steelers matchup on Sunday

I didn’t quite know what to expect when I set about to talk to a Steelers blogger about the matchup this weekend between Thad Lewis’ Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers. I ended up getting some really nice insight from a real pro who has vast knowledge of the league in general and the Steelers and AFC North in particular. He was quite objective as I think most at WFNY try to be...

Mike Wallace Will Miss Week 17

Pittsburgh wide receiver Mike Wallace will miss Week 17 because of hip and hamstring injuries. SOURCE: Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-GazetteFantasy Spin:With Pittsburgh out of the playoff hunt, there is little reason to start him in the meaningless Week 17 game. Is Chief Award Casey's Parting Gift?

Heath Miller was voted team MVP and Mike Adams is the Steelers' Rookie of the Year, but the award that may signify a departure went to Casey Hampton, who won The Chief Award.
