We’d all rather be talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers in the postseason unfortunately though, we are left with talk about the salary cap and the draft. The 2013 NFL Draft will be Mike Tomlin’s seventh as Head Coach of the Steelers and he has been pretty up and down to this point with his picks. Tomlin’s first draft in 2007 started out with two eventual defensive starters in Lawrence Timmons and LaMarr Woodley in the first and second round respectively. The only picks of note from that draft were TE Matt Spaeth 3rd round, P Daniel Sepulveda 4th round and CB William Gay 5th round. Spaeth started out well as a rookie and then never developed into anything other than an average, backup. Sepulveda was actually a really good punter however, he could never stay healthy and was finally not brought back in 2012. William Gay looked like he would become a decent third corner and would become a starter until showing that he couldn’t cover anything that moved and left as a free agent in the 2...

  • i dont know who has the last say in these picks, you got to scratch your head with some of the picks we make in the second round and third, these picks are your second year starters or 2nd string starters.how come the steelers didnt take a chance on a guy like burfit inside lb. late in the six or seventh round maybe free agent instead cinci got him and he is starting.and i trully hate are defensive phillosophy what good is to draft a defensive player in the first round and he cant start for the team because our defense is so complicated. hog wash defensive players react so they have to be fast and think on their toes. do you really need to sit a guy for 2 yrs. before he start. take a look at new england belichik is the greatest defensive coach alive maybe alltime man never draft inthe first round trades down and gets more picks. thats what the steelers should do.we got a lots of holes to cover 1 guy is not going to make a difference especially on defense because he is not going to start
  • Because of his off the field issues. Most teams did not want to take the chance with him. Colbert is just as much to blame as Tomlin as Colbert admitted in one of his conferences that he is responsible for the players on the field. Him and Tomlin together have made some good and some bad draft choices. They need to improve their drafting of defensive players for sure.
  • Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert haven't drafted an inpact defensive player (starter) since they been at pittsburgh. Name me 3 top defensive starters drafted since 2008 that were in the first 3 rounds of their draft picks that have done anything. Some fans might not like this what I'm about to say but Kevin Colbert needs to look at his scouting department and recruit some people who have an eye for talented football players because the last 7 rounds over the last couple of years have been crap of players (except A. Brown) who just haven't pan out as good legit starters.I think they judge Rainey too quick to cut him before he went to court.....what a short memory the steelers have when Ben had that sexual assault charge on him they didn't cut the next day (huh)so are the scales balance in Pittsburgh for all players. The steelers need to let some of these old players go (Foote,Hampton,Starks,Harrison & Clark)on about their business. Dick Lebeau time is up ...I'm sorry. Take care Steelers Fans from yours truly. (lol)
