The Miami Dolphins were finally able to give their fans what they wanted….and we can only hope that it leads to the Dolphins winning more games.  Shortly after the NFL free agency period officially began, the reports started leaking from Adam Schefter of ESPN that the Dolphins were engaged in contract talks with WR Mike Wallace.   Now it is indeed officially.  Mike Wallace is the newest receiver on the Miami Dolphins.  In fact, it didn’t take him long to get to his contract signed, because he was already in Miami and is currently at the Dolphins training facility and just finished taking his physical.  Here’s the story form the Sun Sentinel’s Chris Perk. Photo Courtesy of Jeffrey Beal via Wikipedia This is a huge win for the Dolphins, as they were able to lure the top wide receiver on the market.  Reports indicate that the deal is for 5 years, but the contract figures have not yet been confirmed.   Omar Kelly is reporting that the deal is for 5 years, $65 million with $30 million guaranteed.  We’re still waiting for further confirmation.  That is A LOT of money!  We will keep you posted on Wallace’s deal, but understand that the Dolphins aren’t done (nor should they be). Adding Wallace sets up the rest of the offseason.  With a #1 receiver on the roster, the Dolphins created flexibility.  Adding Jared Cook, the top tight end on the market, would be the next step.   Wallace alone adds a speed dimension that the Dolphins have not had at the receiver position since Clyde Gates (I’M KIDDING!).  Wallace will help stretch the defense, will draw double teams, and will open up the underneath routes for Brian Hartline, Davone Bess, and the other Dolphins recievers, running backs, and tight ends. This is a great way for Jeff Ireland to start free agency.  The big thing to remember is that there is still a lot of work to get done.  Be sure to check back here often, we’ll keep you posted on the latest Dolphins news!
