The Steelers are about to get their main offensive weapon back in the fold. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Mike Wallace is expected to report to the Steelers and sign his one-year, $2.742 million contract after the team returns home from their exhibition contest in Buffalo. Wallace will be eligible to play in Pittsburgh’s final exhibition game on August 30, but it “remains unknown” whether he will do so. The Pro Bowl receiver has stayed away from training camp in protest of a new contract, which has no chance of materializing following fellow wideout Antonio Brown’s recent $42.5 million extension. Wallace will have to wait until 2013 to re-spark negotiations. Upon his return, Wallace will have two weeks to shake the rust off and get ready for the season opener in Philadelphia. Facing All-Pro cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha right off the bat may be a daunting challenge. It will be interesting to see how new coordinator Todd Haley works Wallace into his offense.
