The Phish Tank:
The Dolphins are extending one of the likely lesser-known players on their roster, showing that it's not just the big names that are important. The Dolphins, according to a source, have given a 2-year contract extension to FB Lousaka Polite. The extension will now give him $3.7 million over the next three seasons. This isn't a surprising move for the Dolphins. Triforce head Bill Parcells has always liked Polite and kept him on his teams. Parcells signed Polite in Dallas as an undrafted free agent in 2004 after he had been a 4-year starter for the University of Pittsburgh. Polite's home in Dallas was tenuous, as Parcells would sign him, cut him, then bring him back a number of times from 2004 to 2006. When Parcells came to run football operations in Miami, he looked Polite up and signed him again. While most FBs in the league are just extra offensive lineman, Polite gets actual carries and was seen as nearly automatic in short yardage situations. He had 23 carries last season for 85 yards, and then 3 carries for 15 yards in Miami's playoff loss to Baltimore.Oddly enough, Polite could owe his extension to Jason Taylor. Parcells may have been waiting to address Taylor's position in free agency, and when Taylor signed for so little, he found himself with some extra cash to reward one of his good guys.
