Found January 05, 2013 on The Sports Headquarters:
Green Bay lost the season finale in Minnesota to the Vikings on December 30th, splitting the season series against their division rival Vikings, with each team winning their home game. The big question in this game is: can Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder do enough for the Vikings to win? The big names on offense for these two teams may be Adrian Peterson and Aaron Rodgers, but last week the Packers overloaded the line of scrimmage to try to contain Peterson, who still gained 199 yards on 34 carries, while Ponder took advantage of the Packers secondary and delivered 3 touchdown passes for the Vikings. So the real “wildcard” in this wildcard matchup is Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder. Ponder’s season stats of 2935 passing yards and 18 touchdowns with 12 interceptions show he is a compliment to Adrian Peterson’s running, but his three touchdown passes last week show he can make a difference when he takes advantages of defenses stacking the box against Peterson. If Ponder can avoid interceptions it will help create holes in the Packers defense for Peterson to run through. Speaking of Adrian Peterson, don’t tell him the NFL is a passing league. Peterson rushed for 2097 yards this season, with 409 yards of that coming against the Packers defense, nine yards short of Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing mark of 2108 yards, a remarkable feat considering he tore the ACL and MCL in his left knee last season and missed the final four games. Not only has he carried the ball 348 times this season, but he’s carried the Vikings into the playoffs. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is having another amazing season, throwing 39 touchdowns and only 8 interceptions while leading the Pack to an 11-5 record, and will definitely have the advantage playing at home in Lambeau Field. 14 of Rodgers’ 39 touchdown passes went to wide receiver James Jones who led the league in touchdown receptions this year, so Minnesota will have to keep an eye on him. The Packers have to be trying to shake the memories of last years playoff loss to the eventual Superbowl champions New York Giants, playing only one playoff game and losing after going 15-1 in the regular season and winning the Superbowl the year before. Minnesota at Green Bay will definitely be an exciting game, with the best running back in the NFL going against one of the best quarterbacks, and both defenses featuring premier pass rushers, with Green Bay linebacker Clay Matthews III having 13 quarterback sacks this year and Minnesota’s defensive end Jared Allen recording 12. My pick is on the Packers at home, but I don’t like betting against Adrian Peterson.

Elbow sidelines Ponder against Packers

GREEN BAY, Wis. Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder is inactive for Saturday night's playoff game at Green Bay, unable to get over the sore right elbow he hurt in last week's regular-season finale against the Packers. Packers Bar Hangs This Amazing Adrian Peterson Bar Sign

Packers fans aren’t going to let Adrian Peterson forget just how close he was to breaking Eric Dickerson’s record. Nine yards short. That’s it. This banner was spotted by KARE-11 (Minneapolis-St.Paul) reporter Keith Leventhal at a Packers bar earlier today. It’s been making the rounds on the internet today and new developments are surfacing that Peterson himself might be...

Peterson shut down as Vikes fall 24-10 to Packers

Adrian Peterson was shut down and Christian Ponder sidelined. That left the Minnesota Vikings short-handed, overmatched and barely able to do much of anything against the Green Bay Packers. Peterson was held to 99 yards, after gaining 199 and 210 in the first two games against Green Bay, and Joe Webb struggled in place of Ponder as the Packers rolled to a 24-10 victory over the...

Vikings Playoff loss proves unimportance of the RB in the NFL

The Minnesota Vikings were soundly defeated by the Green Bay Packers 10-24 and the biggest truth the game proved is the continued decline of the value of franchise running backs in the NFL. Adrian Peterson was the biggest story going into the game, because he was only 9 yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson’s single season record with 2,097 yards after coming back from major knee...

Packers must flip script early against Vikings

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Packers could have avoided this. They had control over the NFC's No. 2 seed, which would have given them a first-round bye to watch from home as four playoff teams get eliminated this weekend. Instead, the Vikings beat Green Bay in the regular-season finale, earning a postseason spot for Minnesota and setting up a rematch between the NFC North rivals for...

Adrian Peterson is Probable

Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson was a full participant in Friday's practice and is listed as probable for Saturday's playoff game.Fantasy Spin:He has been on the injury report for one reason or another for most of the season, but that didn't keep him from coming within eight yards of Eric Dickerson's NFL single-season rushing record. The Vikings star running...

Charles Woodson Says The Vikings Are All About Stopping One Guy

The Green Bay Packers finally got it right against Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings.  The prior two games, Peterson had rushed for what seemed like 500 yards a game against the Packers. Peterson ran off 199 last Sunday when he almost broke Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record.  The Packers got Clay Matthews and most importantly Charles Woodson back yesterday...

NFL wild-card round cheat sheet

Though many eyes will be on stars Adrian Peterson, J.J. Watt and Von Miller this month, the NFL playoffs are really about one position and one position only: quarterback. Consider this: Since Brad Johnson won the Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002, the only quarterbacks to win Super Bowls have been the following men: 1. Tom Brady 2. Peyton Manning 3. Ben Roethlisberger...

Packers vs. Vikings Part 3: The Wildcard

As all the sports world knows, the Green Bay Packers will face the Minnesota Vikings for the second time in six days tomorrow evening on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field. The Packers won the first game several weeks ago, and the Vikes took the game on Sunday. This game? Well, it will be cold. But as Packer fans we hope that, in the end, the ViQueens feel much colder much longer...
