In our hubris after the 2007 NFL Draft, we have decided to live-blog the 2007 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. Well, at least the four hours that are on ESPN2 on Thursday. Actually, we'll see how it goes. Four hours is a long time considering only the die-hardest of the die-hards know anything at all about the kids that are going to be drafted tomorrow. Still, it should be a fun time for all. Either we provide insight into the picks and players or at least you'll get to watch us melt down like that dude at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. As a preview, here are the four guys that could be the first-overall pick tomorrow: David Price, LHP, Vanderbilt University Mid-90's fastball. Ace of Vandy's staff. Should be a fun pair with Scott Kazmir in a couple of years. Then again, how depressing is it that Tampa Bay is so terrible, but will have Kazmir and Price wasting away in their rotation? Someone needs to stop them. Rick Porcello, RHP, Seton Hall Prep (N.J.) One of the rundowns on him mentions that he's been a "can't miss prospect" since he was a sophomore in high school. That either says a lot about how good Porcello is or a lot about the state of pitching talent in baseball these days. Josh Vitters, 3B, Cypress High School (CA) Probably the best position player in the draft. Then again, he's 18, so who the hell knows? Still, the kid can rake (against high school pitching) and will probably make whatever team that drafts him very happy. Or he could flame out in the minors like Matt Bush. Nice one there, Padres. Matt Wieters, C, Georgia Tech A switch-hitting, good defensive catcher from Georgia Tech, with power from both sides of the plate? Has anyone checked to make sure this isn't just Jason Varitek trying to relive his glory days?
