Philadelphia-eagles-dallas
Let's go ahead and call it what it is. This is a disappointing and lost season for the Philadelphia Eagles. All of those expectations(and I was one of the people feeding into those expectations)of a potential Super Bowl birth have gone up in flames, and you have a city in Philadelphia that is not hesitant in showing their displeasure. Of course, when things don't go how you planned for them to go, you get into a position where you have to make some changes. That means people may have to go through the process of getting fired. This might be the fate facing head coach Andy Reid. If Reid does end up going out, it won't be because of a lack of trying. Defensive line coach Jim Washburn was fired Monday, which makes that the second defensive coach fired by Reid this season. He fired Juan Castillo from the defensive coordinator position earlier this season(I still don't know why you bring Castillo to the defensive coordinator position after the man was coaching the offensive line). Obviously, there's a serious makeover going on in Philly. It appears quarterback Michael Vick, fairly or unfairly, is on the way out. Reid has decided to go with rookie Nick Foles as the starter for the rest of the season, while Vick has blamed "politics, " not the fact he has a concussion, for why he hasn't been allowed to come back as the starter. In Reid's defense, the team has been decimated by injuries on the offensive line and to their top skill-position players. Vick, running back LeSean McCoy, and wide receivers DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin have all battled injuries this season(Jackson is gone for the year and it appears to be the case for Vick and McCoy seeing how the season has gone astray). As far as the defense goes,   Reid has fired two coaches on that side, which tells me it might be a problem with the personnel. The secondary in particular has been disappointing to say the least. Cornerbacks Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie have played far below standards for them to make as much money as they make, and the safeties, Kurt Coleman and Nate Allen, just aren't very good. The defensive line hasn't produced much and it resulted in defensive end Jason Babin, who was one of the NFL's leading sack producers, getting cut by the team(Babin would be picked up by the Jacksonville Jaguars). Linebacker DeMeco Ryans has probably been one of the only bright spots on the team. So I think it's fair to say it's not all on Reid, but we all know the head coach is the guy who gets the blame for everything. I guess I wouldn't be surprised either way as far as Reid goes, but I think the glaring eye test that tells you whether or not a coach needs to be fired is how the players play on the field. From what I can see, it appears Reid has not completely lost the team and sings of effort are still there. For that, Reid still might keep his job for another year, but I think something has to be said for some of the questionable coaching decisions that he has made. You have to ask the question "When does Andy Reid point the finger at himself and not others?" Don't be surprised if Reid is part of the overhauling process that will be coming in the off-season in Philadelphia. By Charles Taylor
