New England Patriots
New York Jets
Despite what some pundits may believe, the New England Patriots will remain the AFC East champions after the 2013 football season.
The Patriots’ roster has undergone some major changes since last season ended, but the keys to their success remain in place. Wes Welker and Danny Woodhead have left town, Aaron Hernandez is sitting in jail awaiting a trial for murder, Brandon Lloyd is wondering where and Alfonzo Dennard may not be able to make it back from Nebraska. Lucky for the Patriots these players mean little in the grand scheme of things. New England, under Bill Belichick, has always been about the game plan rather than the individual players executing said plan. That, coupled with the fact that New England plays in a weak division which has not drastically changed from last season means that it will be the AFC East champions at the end of the season.
The Miami Dolphins have improved since last season and will be a formidable opponent, but they will not be able to take the crown from New England. Miami finished the 2012 season with a 7-9 record and will likely need at least nine wins, including at least one victory over the Patriots, to win the division. With four of their first five games coming against the Colts, Saints, Falcons and Ravens it’s not likely they will get off to a good start and they should be happy if they can start 3-3. The rest of their schedule isn’t as bad, but considering they were 4-4 in the division last season they will need to improve on that in order to surpass the Patriots.
The New York Jets are a hot mess. If Rex Ryan isn’t fired after this season it will be a small miracle. The Jets were atrocious last season and their woes have only increased since then. Not only do they still have Mark Sanchez at the helm but they have created their own quarterback controversy by drafting Geno Smith. Overall, New York has done little to improve their team since the season ended. After finishing 6-10 last season, the Jets could improve on that with a much easier schedule but it’s still highly unlikely that they will challenge the Patriots in any way.
By acquiring Kevin Kolb, the Buffalo Bills have found stability at the quarterback position. However, Kolb isn’t a proven franchise quarterback and his presence won’t likely get the Bills over the hump in order to be a contender in the AFC. After finishing last season at 6-10, even when being generous, it’s hard to find more than six wins in their upcoming schedule.
People accuse the Patriots of playing in an easy division, which is warranted, but despite that they are still able to contend for the one or two seed come playoff time and this season should be no different. The Patriots have proven time and again that they win because of their system not because of their players, so despite the roster turnover expect the Patriots to be a contender in 2013.

In the wake of the Aaron Hernandez murder case, I have a lot of questions. That need answers. Such as 1.) Why have the New England Patriots continued to sign/draft malcontents and players with character issues? 2.) Why didn’t they do a better job vetting Aaron Hernandez? Or did they see the warning signs and just ignore them? 3.) What does The Patriot Way really mean today? Hasn’t...
Bubble watch: Steve Beauharnais--ESPN: ESPN Boston gives Steve Beauharnais a 60 percent chance of making New England’s final 53-man roster.
Known as a hard-working, fundamentally sound player, Beauharnais could fit the Patriots mold early on. It’s unlikely that he will have any significant contributions on defense, at least initially, but he could bring value down the road...
Aaron Hernandez and his murder charge is a subject that is taboo in the NFL and especially Foxboro, but it’s also the subject that most people want to know about. Well, Rob Gronkowski is haven’t nothing to do with it.

With the preseason games just around the corner many members of the New England Patriots team will be hoping to prove themselves on the field ahead of the regular season in hope of a spot on the roster for the start of the 2013 campaign. Alfonzo Dennard must have an angel on his shoulder, because the embattled cornerback will most likely get one more chance to prove his worth.
The Boston Globe is reporting that the New England Patriots do not plan on cutting Dennard at this time, after the second year defensive back was arrested on suspicion of DUI last week.
Dennard already has received a 30-day jail sentence for...

Probably the worst Patriot season in recent memory.
Even 2008 wasn't as bad. At least in 2008 the team had an excuse for failing to meet expectations. There was no Tom Brady.
After the shock of seeing Brady keeled over on the ground in the first game of that season wore off, it became a pretty entertaining year. Who thought we would be watching Matt Cassel defy the...
