Sunday night may have been the last chance Randy Moss will have to capture a Super Bowl ring, and his team came up short once again. The San Francisco 49ers turned Super Bowl 47 into a close game, but the Baltimore Ravens were in charge for most of the night. One of the most devastating plays for the Niners came in the second quarter, when Colin Kaepernick threw an interception with his team already trailing 14-3. The pass was intended for Moss, and although it sailed a bit high you have to wonder if he could have at least gotten a hand on it by extending himself. Instead, he watched it sail over his head and into the arms of Ed Reed. This infuriated Bill Romanowski, who laced into Moss during the Niners’ postgame show on Comcast SportsNet. “Randy Moss alligator armed it, he didn’t go up for the ball!” Romanowski said while gradually raising his voice, via CSNBayArea.com. “He said he was the best receiver in the DAMN world — ok, you hear me? OH GOD! That’s what pisses me off! You’re playing in the SUPER BOWL, guys!” Video of the play can be seen here. Just as a 60-yard touchdown down the middle of the field is vintage Moss, so too is giving up on a play. He may feel that he is the most skilled player to ever play the position, but Moss never had a chance at being the best of all time due to a lack of effort. Would he have changed the outcome of the game had he broken up the pass? Could he even have reached it? We’ll never know, but we wouldn’t have to ask these questions if he at least made an effort. That’s simply Randy being Randy, and it may be one of the many reasons he’ll likely never win a ring. Your browser does not support iframes. • Of course, being insulted by a guy who let his wife take the fall for his dope isn't the worst thing in the world.
  • Hey, fhsro3j, a.k.a., Spamtard, we do not care for your kind around here, so either you had better give an opinion on the topic at hand or we will make sure that you and your ilk are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Thank you.
  • What does that have to do with the fact that he's right or not? Why do people bring up irrelevant sh!t all the time?
  • Now let me get this straight; Kaepernick throws an INT, and it's Moss' fault.....?
    Ah, no.
  • your an idiot. moss could have tried. but didnt so um yes
  • yes, he let it go over his head.....he didnt even try to catch it.
  • Kaepemick is a super star he cant take the blame! LOL they just think hei why did heset on the bench and not talk to the other player
  • I LOVE ROMO!! GO RAIDERS!!
  • As a former wide receiver I would have to agree with Romanowski. It is the receiver's responsibility to protect the ball. If you can't secure the ball at least swat it down with one hand.

Everyone knows that the best receivers can jump!
  • You're an idiot. Look at the video. Moss would have to be 7'6" and jump 4 feet in the air. The ball went 5 yards behind him. Flacco would have laid it right in there, as Moss was open. Crappydick wasn't too accurate.
  • Dude no one is saying he would have even touched it. It was the fact that Moss is lazy and didn't even make an attempt. And by the way Kaepernick was pretty accurate all game other than that throw. And Flacco got away with 2 or 3 balls that could have been intercepted.
  • Moss... had a colorful career and Culpeppar made him a star. It was incredibly egotistical for a player in that position to go out and make that claim, and THEN quit on a route in the SB. In my humble opinion, Moss (given his experience) should have read that pass as being over thrown, reached up (go vertical given his height) and make that pass uncatchable. If you watch the replay, he does nothing! Like thousands of fans at the game, he watches the pass get picked off. The greatest reciever of all times... would NOT do that. Cut him...
  • Culpepper made him made him a star? Seriously?
  • Well ar=t least he didnt spit it out in Randys face.
  • Romo I watched that video and although I am not a Moss fan I admit that ball was untouchable by anyone not 10 foot tall. Maybe I did not see the right angle but in this case your wrong.
  • Im suprised he didnt spit on him. As a 9ers fan I never did like Romanowski with denver or SF and Randy Moss either D.Sanders included, they were just chasing rings from the best team.

  • I can;t believe it actually. All year long Moss has very patiently put up with having very few passes thrown to him, he has according to his coach and fellow players been a huge help in mentoring Crabtree along with others and now this. As soon as the game is lost throw it all on a terrible pass thrown to Randy Moss. Okay maybe to make everyone like this Romo character happy he should have leaped 10 feet straight up in the air and swatted it down and it would have been a lesson in futility. Or maybe when he came down one of his knees or ankles would have gone the wrong way and he would have been injured on an uncatchable pass. Always a bunch of armchair quaterbacks talking and talking. Well I love Randy Moss and I think he did nothing wrong and I hope he gets a team with a decent quarterback if he decides to play another year or two. Gosh but Ben would love him in Pittsburgh.
  • In his youth Randy was awesome. I even named my golden retreiver after him, but, he had his chances and he just got too sure of himself and cocky and stopped putting forth any effort. As far as getting a good quarterback, come on, he has played with some of the best. The Pat's cut him for the same reason, not putting forth enough effort. He is capable, he just thinks that he is soo good that he doesn't have to try!
  • Nobody in Pittsburgh (players or fans) wants Moss. He's a POS. Not a team player, just me, me, me. That is not acceptable. I hope he just fades away, but I'm sure that won't happen. RIP Randy.
  • Or maybe when he came down one of his knees or ankles would have gone the wrong way and he would have been injured on an uncatchable pass...If this is the mindset of any player its time to just quit...You could get hurt running a route design to pull the safety out of position...so because the ball is not coming your way you dont put in the effort...get off the field...RANDY MOSS THE GREATEST RECIEVER OF ALL TIMES HAS BEEN TO THE BIG DANCE TWICE AND NO ONE EVEN NEW HE WAS THERE...PLEASE...I HEARD HE PLEDGE "ME PHI ME" AT MARSHALL...WASTE OF TALENT...
  • I'm not sure it was within reach. Seemed pretty high on the replay. If he jumps he and doesn't get it, maybe he obscures Reed's view on the pick. Like the article said, we'll never know since he didn't go up.
  • It doesn't matter if it was in his reach or not. We will never know, because he didn't TRY!
  • If you already know something's out of reach by a mile, why bother? That's just wasted energy. Why don't you walk outside and try jumping up to catch the wing of an airplane as it's passing over?
  • I was thinking the same thing, UKJeff; that if he'd have jumped and waved at the ball, he might have affected Ed Reed's judgment of the trajectory and maybe he reacts differently and doesn't pick it off. But yeah, no one will ever know.
Also, looking at the replay, I don't know that Moss even saw Reed behind him...not that that's an excuse.
  • Kaepernick could always learn how to throw better...100% fault goes to the QB and not Moss...and Romanowski was at best a mediocre player who played with great teams

No matter how bad Moss's ego was he atleast never spit in other peoples faces
  • It's amazing a one of the worst Steroid Abusers of all times always comments about everyones Effort. Hopefully, Lance Armstrong will know when to Shut up. I'm not sure which is worse a Bitch Like Joan Rivers with tons of plastic surgery calling someone ugly. Or this clown's worthless rants.
  • LOL. And you're calling someone ignorant and an idiot.
Yet here you are, still mad, MAD about an election that is over and settled, but you gotta stick that Obama dig in even if it doesn't fit. Mad boy! Hahahahahahaaaaaa...
  • To answer Romo and the other clowns who blame Randy Moss. The 49ers lost because the Ravens defense stop them in the red zone. Who cares if Moss did not make a better attempt to catch the pass, if the 49ers had made their touchdown in the red zone we would no be having this conversation. So Romo kill the crap and throw the blame on who killed the 49ers dream of a ring, the qb, running backs and the coaching staff. I would have run the ball all four times until we made it into the end zone. ps, if you could have made that play Romo, you should have suit up and made the play yourself, don't blame Randy Moss...
  • cryin niners are sore losers , probably the worst ever
  • I've said it before anyone who gets a Randy Moss in their team is going to damage their Quarterbacks reputation. He cost NE Patriots the Superbowl against the Giants 4 years ago. Go back to the last play which was repeated to him. Same throw and on both plays he will not extend his arms to grab the ball. As if he was paid to loose the game.
“Randy Moss alligator armed it, he didn’t go up for the ball!” Romanowski said while gradually raising his voice, via CSNBayArea.com. “He said he was the best receiver in the DAMN world — ok, you hear me? OH GOD! That’s what pisses me off! You’re playing in the SUPER BOWL, guys!”
He simply sucks and he wants the ball to hit his chest everytime even when his running away from the ball.. Why NE got rid of his ass...
  • Who gives a S**T what Bill Romanowski thinks! His head is so full of steroids that I'm surprised he can spaek at all. Once again when he does manage to babble something it's crap that no one wants to hear. Way to go dummy!
  • I was stunned at the bad play calling by Jim Harbaugh and the non-calls by the referees to notice Randy Moss. When the lights mysteriously went out, I figured that it was a "Dinozzo directed at Jim" for not coaching the 49ers. My 12 year old son noticed it and asked at the end of the game "if the Ravens won by default?!?" It looked, smelled and ended bad for the 49ers because it was a joint effort to let "Ray Lewis have his storybook ending for his career and not because of Randy Moss." I know you need something to lash out at and Randy was your choice. The Niners didn't stand a chance when their coaching staff didn't give them a game plan that worked in the first half until the lights went out. Unfortunately, the missed holding call that allowed the touchdown by Jones really made this game stink even more. Missed call after call after call will not allow any team to win a game in the last 4 seconds. Kaepernick and the niners should not blame themselves for because this one was already in the bag. Vegas odd makers knew of Kaepernick's potential but he wasn't given the chance to make history. It's a total lack of integrity that makes watching the Playoffs and Super Bowl over the past 8 years that has taken the taste out of my mouth. Shame on them!
  • Interesting opinion. I don't know if I can fully agree though. The ball looked pretty high. Still, if Moss has at least jumped at it, would he have maybe affected Ed Reed's judgment of the ball? Never know.
  • Romanoski has been and is still one of the most ignorant idiots to ever play. He and Matt Millen should not be heard from. Romo was the dirtiest, steriod junkie to ever play and Millen was just an inept GM/Coach/Player who needs to fade away as well.
  • The greatest receiver of all time could have made a difference in the game at a critical time. Didn’t Randy Moss read his own press claiming he was the greatest of all time? They don't throw him the ball much because he can't get open any more. The guy is high on himself and needs to retire and shut up.
  • Don't know what he was seeing. It was so far overthrown that it wasn't worth making an attempt at catching it. Look at how far Reed is down the field from him. I guess a better camera angle would have helped, but it appears that the ball is a good 6 to 7 feet over his head. Who on this planet could have caught that where Moss was positioned.
  • Yao Ming
  • LOL - Nah, that wouldn't work either. Yao was 7'4" or something like that, but he could barely jump over a quarter lying flat. With his wing span, he could probably have come within a few feet, but still not good enough!
  • Can't blame any receiver for being extra careful around those Ravens' DBs. Like Scarlet said,"tomorrow is another day", best to be in one piece and able to enjoy it.
  • finger pointing, players make millions make an effort to catch the damn ball! If it was a bag of dope, mmmmmm I wonder.
  • And you make minimum wage doing what? Why so jealous trailer park guy? A bag of dope? What are you saying? You don't bag your meth anymore? How's that Mountain Dew? See you soon trailer park guy!!!
  • A few things here. #1.For the people that write on here, "who cares what Romo thinks", well obviously Comcast Sports Net does. That's why they hired him to give his opinion. #2. As soon as I saw the replay of the interception I thought immediately that moss made no attempt at the throw. If he could've just tipped it Ed Reed may not of caught it. #3. randy moss has done this before and because of this and his own admission that he "takes plays off" he will always be scrutinized for this and rightfully so. #4. For anyone that thinks Romo is a piece of crap, that may be true, but I can guarantee you he will always give 110% on the football field at all times unlike the loser that is randy moss. #5. The wide receiver that most people think is the greatest ever, Jerry Rice was never scrutinized for his lack of effort, hustle or committment which is why moss should never be mentioned in the same breath as Jerry Rice. Out.
  • Did Moss know that he wasnt throwing to another 49er?
  • "Romo" is becoming a sideshow. That dude is funny to watch, but it's sad how much of a spectacle he's become. He should end his career as one of Vince McMahon's puppets.
  • Even Kaepernick says it was his fault and not Randy Moss' (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/05/colin-kaepernick-interception-was-all-my-fault-not-randy-mosss/). I suggest you haters take a look at this series of videos on how Moss' has gotten an undeserved bad rap over the years: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc205O_Wtp4

RUMORS & GOSSIP

Report: NBA exploring moving start of Finals up

The NBA’s conference finals have been the definition of anti-climax as both series appear headed towards four-game sweeps. But that’s nowhere near as unexciting as the wait until the start of the NBA Finals will be. The starting date of the Finals was set as June 5 before the end the second round. And had either conference final been even remotely interesting, that would not...

Baseball players in the military: A tribute

During the course of a 162-game season, many people take baseball for granted.
